Actually no. This is a company rule dreamed up by Henry C when he was GMT. HKCAD have no such age restrictions, nor have ICAO. What ICAO does have is a LHS ban on pilots over 65 ( France 60 ) BUT and here is the cruncher, that only applies to normal airline operations ( the AOC ).The BTC role lies outside the normal AOC ops and is classed as a test pilot programme. Ironoically where the company ruling collapses is that non aircraft rated BTC's can fly with a brand new JFO ( straight from aircraft base training ) on their first 4 LFUS sectors. Infact only BTC's can do these first 4 sectors. This age discrimmination was introduced by HC to promote career advancement. Unfortunately he missed his upgrade by 3 months and never got to BTC. Currently CPBoeing and FTM Boeing are upgrading themselves to fill the void in violation of CAD guidelines to keep C&T duties and management duties separate. But when you have a GMO who writes and interprets the FTL's on behalf of the CAD what do you expect. More jobs for the boys.
