No money in freight v 2

Air China selling their half of Air China Cargo - will be interesting to see if Cathay sells their half

Although the profitability of Air China Cargo improved in 2017, the improvement
was mainly due to the recovery of international transportation volume, cyclical rise
of freight rates, and substantial exchange rate gain from the appreciation of
Renminbi against US dollar. Given the complex international trade situation and the
expected weakening of Renminbi, the profitability has not been fundamentally
improved. Due to the extended period of poor performance, there is still a large
amount of losses to be covered. Therefore, disposing of Air China Cargo is the
concrete measure and reasonable choice for the Company to address the
uncertainties of the air cargo market, allowing the Company to enhance the
stability of its operations.

The US China freight (trade) market has softened significantly with all the tariffs.

China has been in recession for over 6months. Notice how much the tone out of Beijing has changed since? That means they are really worried, which should worry everyone else too.

P2P lending is collapsing and government has already closed 5000 P2P ventures. Lots of investors where heading to Beijing for protest, they’ve all been arrested.

The writing is on the wall. Not sure there is much China can do to spin this one. Aviation usually leads the economy. Them selling their freight venture is pretty indicative that the numbers are bad.

China is a house of cards, always has been. That is irrelevant to what a proper aviation career is worth. CX can pay us, they just choose not to. Do not be distracted by the usual "sky is falling" rhetoric we hear every single time we are in negotiations. They have taken too much from all of us already. Now it is time to give it back.
