Btw. When I joined, I received 24000 /mo....and that was almost 30 years ago. Please, grow up and come back to the forum when you have gained perspective and no longer interested in sucking on the Swire teat.

I was in my thirties before I could afford to rent my own accommodation and not have to share the bathroom. This was after starting professional flying by the age of 20. I'm no Swire apologist but I suspect that some of the younger generation expect too much too soon. I have no issue with cadet entries starting on the present allowance but in order to keep them, there has to be significant increases after a period of time / experience in the company. HKPA is woefully inadequate for a long term professional in Hong Kong.
I have never worked in such a toxic environment and will be leaving in about 2 years. (10 years early but I have concluded that a long, happy, less afluent retirement is better than a shorter, bitter but probably financially better off future.)

Why are you waiting 2 years ? Airlines are recruiting NOW. In 2 years you will be hundreds down the seniority list of whoever you join. If you have decided to leave LEAVE.

Guys..can I just drop in here. After 38 years in aviation..(having started flying at 16)...I had had enough. I was in with a certain airline in the Sandpit..and things there were getting worse at every turn.
I decided..enough was enough...I had been an expat for 25 years..and made the decision to go home and walk away from aviation for good. ( Disclaimer..I could afford not to work).
7 months ago I applied for a job, that I never expected to get ( not aviation related)...to my surprise I was offered a position and started my course in July.
Can I tell you, Im having a blast! I work for a company that really cares about it's employees...on my first day on the job..so many people said to me...you are going to love it here..we all love this place.
The Instructor who ran the classroom part of our course is 73..he as worked here since was 22...and he says "my wife wants me to retire..but why would I..I love this place"...
My point is..there is a life after flying...stay safe out there and enjoy life!!!

To anyone desperate enough to consider CX, I would suggest you read Trafalgar's posts. The place was toxic before I retired some time ago. It seems to get worse by the day so, presumably, it's a deliberate tactic by Swire HQ in London and will only get worse. Don't join.

for anyone looking for the 4000+sqft flat in HKG, here is some update.. on how much to pay.. 4,242 sq ft, or about HK$132,000 per sq ft.. the expensive in the whole of Asia.

“It is even normal to find parking spaces transacted at above HK$2 million (US$256,000), and HK$1 million is becoming the entry point for parking spaces in Hong Kong,” said Alun Jin, property analyst at Mizuho Securities.
A parking space at Festival City in Sha Tin went for HK$2.5 million, and in another recent transaction at Tseung Kwan O Plaza, a space fetched HK$2.08 million.
A record was set in June for the world’s most expensive spot, when an 88 sq ft parking space in Upton, in Sai Ying Pun, changed hands for HK$5.18 million (USD $742000)

I disagree, I think the bubble is by design and will continue. Mainlanders will continue to flood into HK until critical mass is reached and then a referendum held to end the 50 Years Rule early, and HK can become a Chinese city under full control of the Mainland, but it was democratically voted for. It's working, as except for the French, net expat migration is outward, and younger local people, a lot who have dual citizenship with Australia, UK or Canada, are moving and some are moving to Taiwan.
At the prices HK properties are fetching now, the yields are in the toilet. In a real world environment it would not be sustainable for this long, so it must be artificial. You can find a bargain here and there, but for the most part everyone's been priced out.
