CX management goal
Historically CPA has been a highly profitable company. This has been due to their location in a fast growing city in a fast growing region and having a monopoly. The profits have been made despite the management, not because of them.
Due to the our generations of conservative managers we have not protected our monopoly, rather than growing fast enough to dominate the slots at VHHH, they have allowed HKA to establish itself. Within 3 years HKA will have more hulls than CX. As a Chinese owned airline, in a Chinese city they will be HKG's flagship carrier, not CX a company controlled out of London.
Our current management has decided to face the first real competition in the same way their predecessors have made their bonuses - by cutting cost. They won't rest until the CX pilots cost the same as the HKA pilots.
The fuel hedge wasn't a mistake. Swire used it to suck billons of dollars out of the group, without having to give any to the other share holders. The massive loses give their managers an excuse for the current attack on the employees. Only an idiot would believe for a moment that concessions need to be made.
Rather than the focus on cost cutting we should be positioning ourselves as the premium HKG carrier, as HKA will be the largest. Best food, best IFE, best cabin, best IT for passenger experience and charge a premium for it all. Let the stinking masses travel on HKA, grab the discerning pax with a few dollars to spend on CX.
A massive change in approach but the only way forward.

This. HKA are, as an organisation, willing to work for less and make less/ no profit.
As many other industries/ companies have found, there is ‘the China price’
Or, as Amazon say - your margin is my opportunity

Booked HKA at the holidays HKG-YVR return, the price was just under HK$22k per ticket in business class, lie-flat bed. Same days on CX, the price was just under HK$30k per ticket in business class. Air Canada was just under HK$33k per ticket. A lot of HKA pilots in my complex in TC, none seem to have a deathwish or even seem outwardly bothered in any real way, so I felt comfortable.
The problem with the idea around the opening poster, is that there are not enough people in HK that are willing to pay for the premium service, so the model has to be built around connecting traffic + premium service. I agree that the CX service is really strong, but not US$1k per ticket strong. Until HKA has a serious safety incident (I hope never because I wish this on no one), people will not pay substantially more to fly with KA/CX--except maybe those that are a slave to miles. But I do believe they would pay more for perceived better safety.

Oh lordy, CX pilots travelling on HKA ‘cos its cheaper and then in the same vein say CX should stay aloof, charge more so they presumably can continue to pay in excess of the current rate for pilots in hk? These being the incumbent B Scalers and their fat mortgages no doubt?
The gravy train’s leaving on the 28th Dec . 14k housing . Yep , n CX still won’t make a profit!

I am a man of my word. I signed an agreement with the company. I have kept my side of the deal, they yet again want to renege on their side.
I brought my experience and skills to CX, CX agreed to reward me at a certain level for these skills. The 'current rate for pilots in hk' is of no ******* relevance as its not a free market due to seniority.
If my rewards are cut I will cut my productive hours to match.

Staff Travel Enhancement"
Ever get that feeling that you're getting kicked when you're down, especially when it's preceded with the word "enhancement"??
I don't know whether you see it from this angle however todays "Monday Morning Good News" rag indicates that from Nov 1 CX/KA Economy class Staff Travel tickets will slashed by 50%
So what does this mean?
-Most every other major airline; employees travel for free in this class
-Remember the last "Enhancements" ?
1:KA at same priority as CX staff (how'd that work for ya)?
2:When flights are "Deemed Full" they load staff by "strict date of joining
irregardless of the class of travel ticket purchased..(how'd that work for ya)?
So take a good look at this latest "enhancement" and envision yourself trying to fly Business Class to say LHR, SYD, YVR etc. #YouDecide #BendOver

a370. You have no idea what you are talking about, so why do you bother. You know nothing of the legalities and contract terms. Again, why bother? Let's make a deal: You don't comment about our situation, and I won't comment about your mental illness. Agreed.

I don't really understand your obvious 'glee' in the present circumstances we are suffering from. If you are a pilot, then you are a disgrace to the profession. It's quite obvious you were/are a CX reject, as your bitterness and envy come through. We've had our ups and downs over the years, but at least i've had a great career. Something I suspect you will never experience. How do I know? Because those same years of experience have taught me that individuals such as yourself are never successful, in career...or life.
