Readers should be reminded that a few years ago GDLC argued with Dickie Hall about a salary increase.
In that he mentioned that by adding 10 HKD to the ticket price would cover the salary increase.

Obviously Richard rejected the idea.
Now it seems if the company are cash strapped they happily apply a surcharge.
I fear our 13 th month is in jeopardy too🙄

I love Cathay Pathetic!

Unbelievable.

As a minimum that idiot IC should be unceremoniously sacked, and ALL upper management receive NO bonus for the foreseeable.

The shareholders must be a pack of morons too to let this slide.

A literal passing of the buck
Sounds like you might have used the wrong vowel in the word "passing"....

Fair is fair, if Cathay had bet the right way and made a huge profit on fuel hedging they would have shared it with the passengers by lowering fares, wouldn't they ?

13th month ( discretionary annual bonus with discretionary being the operative word) will definitely not be happening this year.

The 13th month is happening. They still made a profit...and will make more in the second half. What is wrong with some of you. If they wanted to ratchet up the war to Defcon 5, that would be the way to do it. I swear, some of you are the most naive, defeatist individuals i've ever had the misery to come across. Certainly, to penalise the entire workforce for the sake of a few incompetent individuals would be crossing a line that they really don't want to cross.

Have a read up on the legalities of "13th month". You'll understand that simply won't be happening. Either they pay it to all staff, or no staff. Stop the fear mongering, especially as in your case it's not based on anything of substance. I swear, many of you should simply put on a suit and go to work in an office at Hello Kitty City each day. Many of you are better at psy ops than real management. Oh, and btw, the company is MAKING A PROFIT.

If 13th month isn't paid, I will be taking at least a month off. Not going to get emotional about this, it's just business.

Pay me as per my contract and I will fulfill my obligations of that contract.

There is a reason that it is no longer called 13th month. It was changed to discretionary bonus several years ago and I and a lot of you have been around long enough to have seen reduced annual bonus's before.
The 12000 or one month is always a gem because it keeps 80 odd percent of the staff happy.
So no expectation management from me just cold hard reality. It's been a while since I have seen them screaming poor this hard and it is for a reason.
Anyway I wouldn't be out spending that dough just yet.

Not just the pilots but the ISMs and SPs as well.
The backlash from the ISMs for years of neglect has already started.
Reminds me of the Winter of Discontent.
Couldn't happen to a nicer group of execs!

The context of this situation is simple: If there is a 'bad' business year, based on general economic factors, then I sympathize with the company and will share in the sacrifice. However, if the years numbers are compromised by a few narcissistic, arrogant and incompetent swire employees, then I expect my 13th month. If there is no 13th month, due mostly to the derelict actions of a few employees, I will ensure that I will take another month off for 'legitimate' reasons and level the balance sheet. Either pay me, or don't expect me to be at work.

Traf, that is precisely correct. I wish all the employees would behave that way. Why are we the slightest bit compelled to go above and beyond when we are asked to share in all of the pain, but barely any of the reward? Profit sharing at CX has become a bad joke. It's the bane of the middle- and under-classes... all pain, no gain. The rich get richer while we watch their antics up close. They claim to represent shareholder interests, but they don't even do that well, much less those of the stakeholders (staff).
