There is history here. Best to get acquainted with it. Didn't work the first time.

This really shouldn't change what anyone is doing, save maybe seeing a doctor a bit more often or for a bit longer off as warranted.

And always having a union rep present if called in for a chat as well as someone taking notes. No need to say much--really much of anything (unless you are positive it might help you with some personal issues)--but a strong need to document any potential goings on and exactly what happened.

As far as the self-adjudication by the company for ASR-Fs and the intimidatory potential over disciplinary action based on aircrew legitimately calling off for fatigue, it seems to me that the various regulatory agencies would be keenly interested in knowing about and monitoring this practice by an employer flying jets within their airspace--both in Hong Kong and in any jurisdiction where CX jets operate. As well as the criteria and crystal ball the company is using to tell pilots they were not really fatigued when they felt they were (when and if this occurs). As well as the same agencies being made keenly aware if coercive measures were implemented which had the effect of pilots flying unfit. IF this happens, I'm pretty sure there will be adequate documentation to launch an objective investigation with significant consequences. Whether it's planet hong kong or elsewhere.

Looks like there is significant exposure for the company on many fronts here if ANYTHING gets screwed up; kinda like the proverbial blind man navigating a minefield who is also too arrogant to ask for help. So no need to worry; carry on and keep doing what you need to do to take care of your health. THIS is the important thing. No job is worth sacrificing your health or family's health over.

And IF they're "here to help" in this regard as claimed, don't be afraid to take them up on it !

The backstop for pilots doing the right thing is bigger than it looks.

Will be interesting to see how the GMO and Boeing CP now advise how to remedy unworkable rosters.

God forbid that they actually do their jobs.
Probably too busy taxiing aircraft from the hangar.

So you get 126 days a year but could be gone after being off for say 30 or 40. No mention of a D&G procedure with an AOA rep present, though the company can and does sometimes refuse you the right to have the AOA present at a D&G.
As someone said, sounds like the beginning of compiling a list much like last time.

I would like to think that the CAD will be looking extremely closely at the veiled threats and intimidation in this "updated policy".

If not a significant safety issue, pushing already exhausted pilots to continue operating whilst fatigued and sick, for fear of reprimand or loss of earnings and employment, I do not know what is.

CX management has single handedly created every single one of it's own problems by ignoring FTL limits, "reinterpreting" laws that are stated in black and white, intimidating pilots to work beyond legal limits, ignoring the intent of the law of the first 4 paragraphs in the FTL's, and ripping up RP's, as well as all of the other incredibly stupid decisions over the years, like not employing enough pilots, reneging on 25 year housing agreement, allowing upgrades to premium fleets out of seniority, etc, etc......

If the CAD does not step in and fully audit CX FOP, I would think they will have a mighty big question to answer from LEGCO.
The law is the law, and when the police allow the criminals to redefine those laws, who is the guilty party?

Whilst I agree with everything that anotherbusdriver says I think the chances of the CAD doing anything over this are nil.

LEGCO on the other hand might be interested to know what is going on.

INTIMIDATION

I hope my colleagues will agree that this new policy that has been brought about due to the inept mismanagement of the company will now be Number 1 on the AOA list of things to sort out.

Cathay Pacific are desperate. The reason you have not seen AT for the past 6-8 months is because she has been working hard on this new baby of hers. She has no solutions, and is too stubborn to work with the pilots. This is an illegal and unsafe policy that will cause the company more money and more sick days.

This is the final act of a desperate third world company. A final act of desperation, splashing about and choking before the whole place sinks to the bottom.

Well this is just great
Here we have aircrew that are being worked to the max . Often called out for a shorthaul flight following min rest after completing a Long haul return .
We are exposed to jet lag , reversed seasons , and exposed to multiple Foreign germs, Colds ,Flu , etc at outports .
Is it any wonder that guys are going sick .? Being Fatigued and run down makes you more susceptible to illness.
Now due to this intimidation we are going to have frightened pilots on the flight deck going to work with colds and flu and very kindly spread their germs to the other crew members.

As for GL interviewing pilots over their fitness to be at work . Pot Kettle Black following his recent incident

Please be assured that the CAD is a toothless tiger and will do SFA. It has been that way since I joined and our fathers joined this company.

The wheels are definitely falling off and AT has disappeared without trace.

When you stand at the gate for an hour and a half (doing your DG training on the ipad to look busy) while waiting for an a/c to be towed from HAECO and fending questions from irritated punters...you know it's time to pull a jumper over your uniform and join the rant.

Keystone Cops.
