From Russia with Loss

CX is discontinuing the 3x weekly Moscow service from June.

Cathay Pacific to discontinue Moscow service from June

Not that surprising, really, when you consider the state of Russia's economy.

The 343s are soon to be history. 77W and 77H have too much capacity. 333 don't have the oxygen cylinders. Russian economy is back in the sh*tter.

Most if not all of my Moscow flights were full with staff on JS! With all of the Russians traveling around Asia, we could have gone daily months ago!

A city of 11.5 million people, no other HKG carrier flying there, and we cannot make money on the route!

EK flys a 777 twice a day, they also fly to st Petersburg!

Can I add..EK tried the A380 in to Moscow, it did not work. However 777 loads are generally full.

Around a dozen airlines have pulled out of Moscow so far this year.

The fact that the loads were generally high is only part of the story. The key issue is the yield from the load, especially with the state of the Rouble.

Over the past year the Rouble has gone from 35-40 to the USD to about 60 today.

Resources are better used elsewhere.

I think with the fall of the rubble it was too much for CX. Perhaps when the currency recovers and we get the A350 they might consider bringing it back. My flights were always 75% (if not 100%) full. Its a good market but the war between Ukraine and Russia is having an affect on the flights.

The per diem crew get has dropped quite a bit....

I will miss the lovely Russian long legged women..... maybe one in particular....
