North Asian LCCs challenged by liberalisation and pilot shortage but optimistic on partnerships | CAPA - Centre for Aviation
Have a look at this one if you haven't read it.
I, like many of you, think the shortage thing has always been a myth..but the truth is there is a shortage of experienced rated captains in Asia willing to fly for the current conditions (and the licence conversion process required! -what if you are in the middle of your 1 year long licence conversion process without having flown one single hour, and the company goes under?? -).
There are many flights cancelled because the conditions are not attractive enough to join most of these companies..this is a fact..
If these needed pilots, who are hopefully less in need of a job a.s.a.p. , wait up a little then the only thing that can happen is that conditions go up... Like it or not, they need foreigners.
So the myth is still a myth, but a little more true at this moment me thinks..

Mr Kitahara said. He thinks Japan should consider raising the pilot retirement age to 70 from 64.
How about you raise the salary from crap to a lot more than you are offering!

If by 'North Asia' they mean China, there's no shortage of experienced Captains interested in jobs there. The pay is generally good, with good equipment, good international routes, and commuting options available. All quite attractive.
The problem is the stupidly demanding medical standards, and the idiotic way these are applied. That is further compounded by famously torturous Sim screening sessions, and the requirement to pass a Chinese ATPL exam before even getting a job offer. Total bull**** for any self respecting and otherwise employable captain.
