With us all being HFA (high functioning alcoholics). How many in the CX medical department are alcoholics?

From: HK- A little bit of industrial China in every breath you take.
Probably the exactly the same percentage as any other section of the population. No particular group is immune to the disease, or for that matter, any more or any less susceptible to destructive effects of any addiction.

I'm not an alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings, I go to parties!

The definition of an alcoholic is 'someone who drinks more than their doctor'

you're only a real alcoholic if you don't admit being an alcoholic.. As long as you're sober when you go to work and you liver doesn't interfere with the flight controls - you're good to go.. now shut the f@ck up and empty that shot big boy

It's worse in DXB:

Almost every pilot there is an "alcoholic" as you need the government to certify that you are one to buy a beer!

Says "alcoholic" righ there on the card

BTW theoretically all visitors need one as well - even in the hotel bar, rarely enforced but:
Play safe and carry permit when drinking in hotels | GulfNews.com

Bet the QF transit pax didn't know they were signing up for this when QF ditched SIN for DXB

Do you need a whoremaster Licence too? Considering their hotel bars are full of prostitutes openly plying their trade?
What a hypocritical pack of nut jobs.
Glad I don't have to work there.

MC, visitors don't need a licence, it's covered by their visa. Residents are the only ones who require it.

Vfenext - I understand that you likely live out there, however it appears even your local judiciary state that technically visitors can not legally drink, as only residents (with contract, passport visa, application form, address proof etc) can apply.
This article in one of your local papers refers Lawyers call for UAE's alcohol law loophole to be closed | The National

I'm not saying that in practice a visitor can not grab a beer or six, just that if there's a bit of a kerfuffle, said visitor can easily be in the guano.

It's an old article but the situation has always been that licence required for all to consume outside of bars and hotels. The problem arises if drunk and disorderly outside of these places. Same as anywhere else really and yes numerous examples of creative definition of D&D.

Guilty despite being proven innocent

As funny as some of these posting are, there's a darker side to this issue.

Everybody knows that CX has never had an "innocent until proven guilty" culture. Quite the opposite, you're most definitely guilty, and if you're lucky you may have an opportunity to prove you're innocent.

Recent events though have shown that an accusation can be levelled at an individual (maybe in good faith, but that's immaterial to the story), and even when the individual is tested and demonstrated to be absolutely free of any alcohol, aka 0.00 BAC, such proof of innocence is insufficient. The accused still has to undergo an "assessment", with all the associated stress, and indignity of having their life picked apart and judged.

"Guilty despite being proven innocent"

People, they make an airline............
