Arfur,
Good point, but it's been only 12 hours and we're 1/16th of the way there!
Unfortunately, I'm guessing that unless there's a provision for it in the AOA charter, donating members' dues to a cause such as this might not be allowed.
The generosity of Cathay pilots (and even some non-Cathay pilots) is amazing.

Anyway- $50 CAD from me. I hope this works and, as someone earlier said, don't give them a ticket on CX otherwise they win in the end as they are only worried about money.
Cathay pilots ( and others) buying heroic passengers - who saved somebody's life on a Cathay aircraft- a ticket on a RIVAL CARRIER because Cathay is too mean to acknowledge heroism. Let's see what the 'Cathay spokeswoman' has to say about that to the SCMP.
Also - could this not go viral on social media??
Brilliant idea.

Arfur,
Let's give the pilots some time to show their stuff. It is the middle of the night in Hong Kong :-)
In the meantime, a summary of donations (in Canadian dollars):
$100 - 2
$88 - 1
$50 - 8
$30 - 1
$20 - 8
$10 - 10
$8 - 13
Impressive. Boy, are those guys going to be surprised!
I agree, this COULD go viral, but, at the right time...
Good things come to those who wait, right?

Think. It's been 21 hours and we're at 10.5% of goal. As news of this spreads within the pilot group (and hopefully ONLY within the pilot group) maybe we can achieve our goal by Monday morning, before office hours. Wouldn't that be a great celebration?
It truly is inspiring to see these donations. We have a really great bunch of pilots at Cathay.

Not a pilot, and not CX, but donation made Hero is a much abused term these days, but there is no doubt that these two deserve that title.
I haven't flown Cathay in nearly 20 years (1996) - although I was quite impressed when I did. Business class - transferred from Northwest to Cathay in Hong Kong - I got more attention on Cathay before takeoff than I got on the ~12 hour Northwest flight from Seattle .
Very sad to see a great airline sink to the point that it's own employees disagree when it gets voted #1.

I've heard there's some excitement, so I've come back from Down South.

I suppose I should have said this before.
If you think this is worthwhile, please tell your fellow pilot friends and acquaintances through email or SMS or whatever other private communication methods you use.
Most pilots don't read PPRuNe or the AOA forum.
