Sickness Self-Certification
We are looking into changing the duration of self-certified sickness for pilots governed by Hong Kong contracts, so that it is more aligned with the corporate-wide policy. We are fully aware of the different considerations that our crew members have compared to other employees, and this will be a reflected in the new policy.

ATTENTION SO's and iCadets: I have spoken with many of you, and some of the things you say lead one to believe that you are largely starry eyed, ignorant of what this company is capable of...and what you are worth for that matter.
I would highly advise you to put on your big-boy pants and strap on tight for what could be a rude wake-up call with your first airline.
Those above you on the list cannot hold the line if you will not get involved, take off the rose glasses, and realize that your entire career prospects are at stake.
Do you want a career airline, or a place where you waste 5 valuable years building time only to move on.
Your choice, this is the time.

300ER,
Just a matter of time before they looked at making it more difficult for those who routinely take off six periods of 7 days in a year…..well done boys, you have really helped us all by taking the sick leave you believe you are entitled to!

Sickness Self Certification
GMAs update.
Here it comes. Trying to reduce the sickness rate by reducing the duration and frequency.
It will probably be aligned with DragonAir. I believe they cannot self certify more than 3 days... Or something along those lines, don't know the exact figure.
Tossers.

Those that praised the GMA when she took up her post were guilty of gross stupidity.
The nature of the beast will always show through. These people are not our mates they are there to do a job, rattle cages, make changes; before moving onto the next position, whilst we are left to lick our wounds. Wounds so often caused by fighting one another.
Cancelled flights and last minute type swaps will be the only actions to raise an eyebrow. When there is no pay rise look at the G day worker next to you, he/she has taken it. (2.5% more like 30 pieces of silver)

They are all so bad at managing. Cure the disease don't just try to fix the symptom. The reason so many are going sick is due to terrible rostering and complete apathy for the job due to the continual degradation of our conditions and the complete lack of respect we are shown on a daily basis.

S/Os be aware the way I read the new recruitment plans means TT courses are on the way. HOWEVER that's not going to be the solution so after you've all towed the company line when we try to take action against the company for a pay rise don't be surprised when after the dust has settled they screw you by introducing DEFOs and watch your JF/O upgrade blow out to 5yrs!!!

It's good to finally see some industrial action leadership even if it has come from the GMA.
This should put an end to the urine weak talk of 6 x 7.
Read your contracts. It's not hard. It's 10 pages long and comprehensible to the majority (but not all, I know)
6 x 15 or a similar formula is closer to it. (Maybe a Gen Y out there can make an app..)
Twist an ankle hiking.
Strain your back doing yoga.
Pull a shoulder wake boarding.
Be fatigued by flying your roster.
Get a testosterone booster and a sack to put it in.
Harden up or bend over but stop winging.
Oh, and ignore the management trolls on here who say the 49ers were the end of CC. The 49ers were dismissed during MSS. The union dropped MSS but maintained CC for years and only dropped it as a proviso the 49ers had a chance to re-apply.
It wasn't perfect, but it had an effect.

An airline's attempt to impose reduced Conditions of Service and to have non-pilots order captains to extend duty periods (legally permitted only at the captain's discretion) escalates to the point where 49 pilots are summarily fired. The pilots are publicly defamed, making it difficult or impossible for them to find alternative employment. Their efforts to achieve justice are blocked by lies, obfuscation and attempts to run them out of legal funds.
A pilot kills himself; another pilot's partner hangs herself and two months later he dies of a heart attack aged 35 leaving a young daughter. The author suffers a myocardial infarction.

Bad Back, sinus trouble, trouble sleeping...............
No Doctor in the world would deny you a certificate for your 7 days sick...........
they need to address the real problems, the minor inconvenience of having to call at the Doctors for a certificate is not going to change the amazing rate of sickness...........................

If anything sickness will probably go up, where as a day off due to fatigue or sniffles might have you back flying. If you have to go to doctors and get certificate might as well block off the week or 10 days.

Self Certify
Mangerment need to be very careful when addressing "unfit for work" issues.
By the very nature of our system, a pilot "self certifies" him/herself fit for work every time you appear at dispatch.
If you take away the the discretion to certify yourself unfit, you also take away the discretion to "self certify" yourself fit.
So, is a visit to the PMO going to be necessary before every flight?
