In fact I expect you don't work for CX.

Correct. Sorry to hear you cannot even request or bid for a trip, worked for a couple of majors and never had that problem myself. Used to pick an unpopular trip and request it way in advance, a limited number of requests a year were allowed in both airlines and I understand that is the 'norm' in most major carriers, though obviously not CX.

Yes Curtain Rod, where CX is concerned you are correct, I was just suggesting a solution that works just about every where else in the world but, unbeknown to me, not in CX. In forty odd years I have never before come across an airline that didn't have some kind of request system.

Cx does indeed have a request system, however, for no apparent reason you can't request a trip over the the Xmas/new year period.

Not Cx but one has to be careful. I was GF. Not even SBY over Xmas but because an ozzy went sick on Xmas eve ( not tarring ALL)......oh, OK, yes I am............but, my little Kuwait turnround was changed to Casablanca. This involved getting there on Xmas eve and staying there for 5 days. Gorgeous Morrocan C/A's went home. FO & the boys went off hunting. I was left alone in the Sauna with my Xmas Sherry dreaming of a white Christmas (no racism implied)................oh, ok, yes it is. BUT, I had this wonderful Xmas card that said, on the front.......'Merry Christmas, Jesus loves you". On the inside, it said......."Everyone else thinks you are a C--t" ! So, after my miserable Xmas, I slipped that into the sicko's mailbox only to discover, later, that he was not guilty. Similar name but, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG !

Yes, I was taken outside & beaten around for a bit. Slitty eyes, puffed up lips & still managed a ....."Sowee". Be careful outhere guys. Some people really DO go sick on Xmas eve.

You talk in meaningless riddles Jack, oh yes, 'sew' is what you do with a needle and cotton, 'sow' is what you do with seed.

Jeez Poach Monkey, still singing the praises of your idol, Branson? Still licking the boots of your superiors in the senior flight management team?

Yes Cx has a request system over Christmas. It's called take leave without pay. Gets highest priority.

To those who gave sensible replies thanks.

Think I might be inclined to go for the leave without pay option but only as a last resort and only if it was a very important Christmas!

When a 'singly' (again!),in 1992 I volunteered to fly Christmas, often a better time down route, strolled into the bar in LAX around 18.30 Christmas Day, very full of happy crew, mainly ANZ. Found myself chatting to an ANZ FO, when he realised I was on my own, (my crew, being all Singaporean, had all gone to ground!), he said, "Oh, well we have a room booked for dinner, expecting 35 but only about 25 are here, I'll ask the Chief, (Cabin Crew) who has arranged it, cost you about $25", great, I thought! FO to CC Chief, "Can this guy from SIA, on his own, join us?", CC Chief, "Is he Flight Deck?", "Yes", says FO, "Well no he f..king can't!".

I've heard ANZ can be a bit like that! (Or they were, back then).
