CX Interline travel embargo?
Hi everyone,
Sorry for opening a thread about this but I'm trying to plan some travelling through HKG using CX and a colleague told me to beware because CX usually imposes an embargo on interline staff tickets around the chinese new year. Is this true? I'm asking as I will be travelling through HKG to AKL around the 17th of January and I couldn't get a straight answer from CX's staff travel department.
Thanks

Hi Level 390,
There's not necessarily a travel embargo, but the flights are almost ALWAYS very full around CNY/Lunar New Year. I suggest you connect through a non-Chinese country which wouldn't celebrate CNY.
Good luck.

Is it really that bad? I'll be travelling on the 18th of January and CNY in 2014 is on the 31st of January.
I could always travel on QF or JQ as a backup, I would have liked to travel through HKG as there aren't many options to fly into AKL directly without having to stop in Australia.

Most staff travelling to Auckland goto Sydney and then fly EK across the ditch to NZ. Why? Because the Auckland flight with CX is 99.99999 % full.
I have never got on CX to Auckland for the last 6 months, only by JS.

Wow ok, I've been looking at the loads recently and there always seemed to be space available.. Guess the few seats available are then taken up by CX staff?
Anyway Thai through BKK would be good if they had a daily flight, or maybe MH from KUL? I'd appreciate if anyone has any other ideas

I thought we only had infamous DFO's!
As for the originator of one of the earliest money/freight quotes, I believe the more well known Swire man to discuss the revenue from, or perceived lack thereof, was actually John Bremridge.
He went on to be a Sir John and served as the Financial Secretary in the mid eighties.
Ahh, the days of the nullah aroma and 8 airbridges (I think) - doesn't time fly...

short flights long nights
Hate to say this, but I have another idea for you, buy a normal ticket. Trust me, travelling anywhere around Asia near or during CNY is a complete nightmare. If you want to have a nice, stress free trip, forget using staff tickets. Just my opinion.

or try Emirates. They have 2 A380's & 1 777-300ER operating to AKL (DAILY FFS!). Slosar is too busy boosting short term yield (so as to boost his bonus for his imminent departure) to put on extra flights or,heaven forbid, a B744.
