Just been reading the Flight Global recruitment section and there is a new contract going for 787 Capt's and FO's to be based in Bangkok 3 years renewable.

Buy a Tuk Tuk, fit a Keg of Singha Beer to it and live the dream.

To qualify for Captain you must have 3000 hours on type and 500 hours within the past 24 months. Lol

Since 787 is the same type rating as 777, those minimums are not that high. All but the JFOs on the 777 should have or be approaching 3000 hours. Might be a good way to get out of Hong Kong and into the left seat for some of our guys and gals on the big twin.

To seat on the left seat you need 2000 PIC on ANY Boeing a/c AND 500 PIC on 777 which I doubt a CX JFO has. (I meant the 777 PIC time)
Nevertheless they can still apply for relief Captain which is still a First officer
position on the paper, probably with a faster upgrade. (but still needs that 1500 PIC time on at least 737NG)
There are still some shortcuts you cannot take....
Which I personally don't agree... (If you have 737NG ETOPS experience as a PIC in excess of 2000 hours, I do not see why you could not qualify for DEC on 777 or 787 except if they have already this 777 PIC's under their hats available.


PS:sorry did not see all but JFO...my mistake, but I doubt that senior F/O's
have that 500 PIC as well on 777 in CX
or probably not that many...

As a 70yo who is retired I hesitate to make a serious comment BUT what is the deal in $$$, housing, schooling?
As a young guy, yeah, sure, loadsa fun but you get to thirtysomething and think 'where's my life going'. Do I want to marry a Thai girl? Do I want to marry a girl from my own culture and religion? (which could be any one of hundreds - gotcha there, racist inventors!)

I left the Merchant Navy (which I actually liked) because I asked myself these questions when I was 23yo.

Thanks to Nikita Kruschev and the Yanks, who couldn't play nicely together, I got to be a pilot. I'd have been happy to be a steam turbine driver in a power station but I sure as hell wasn't going back to sea and leaving wife and kids at home. Yeah, so I went to GF for 4yrs - but that wasn't planned

This 787 contract is screwing over Norway based pilots big time. I also believe its is something like $8000k us per month for a captain too.

The race to the bottom continues, the only difference now is that the shiny new jets are made of plastic, not tin. We do it to ourselves, and the companies love it and feed it. "Market forces" they say, but there appears to be no bottom to pool of 'available' drivers. We are moving from 200hr cadets to what is MPL? 150? These guys slide into the right hand seat of a 330 again at KA, hard to run out of pilots when all you need is 150hours. The equivalent of 2 rostered months total experience. Cant blame them, I would have signed with the devil to fly a 330 with 150 hours, if we are all honest enough, who wouldn't? So we shouldn't expect the pool of willing candidates to dry up any time soon. The sad thing is, the only answer is a flaming wreckage and governments regulating that you cant sit in the seat until you have enough experience... (Like the USA). When will our CAD muster up the courage to do that I wonder?
