Looks like a shot across the bow at Boeing. JS is saying... give us a great deal on the -8Is, or we will just increase frequencies with the 777 (and someday the A350) instead of buying the big metal. It's a believable bluff, but a bluff nonetheless because CX will need a bigger airplane to compete in the future.
departure timings...
Good stuff of course but I am a little bit disappointed with the timings though...
I was rather expecting a 1pm departure to fill that gap between CX257 and CX253 out of HKG and similar a 3pm departure between the 1230 and the 1820 flight out of LHR.
My guess is that slots are the biggest issue when adding flights into LHR.

They can't pick and choose the slots they want. The only reason this is being launched at all is because Air New Zealand is pulling out of the HKG-LHR route as part of the partnership with CX they signed. This new flight is the slot time of the ANZ flight NZ38/39.
