without wanting to sound too critical treboryelk,

1. This has been done to death on other threads.
2. Who cares about Posh Spice anyway? If you look at things objectively, she's a nobody has-been. The only reason she does things like this is to keep her name & picture in the press. If we just ignored her antics, she'd fade off into the background.

Let's just end this thread right now.

Dear Tableview,

I must offer you, and fellow PPRuNers, my sincerest unreserved apologies, and humbly concede that you are correct. Any previous implication on my part that she ever was something, or someone, was incorrect. Any suggestion that I made relating to such a matter was grossly misguided, and I wish to completely withdraw any previous statement(s) of that nature.

Please accept my acknowledgement of my previous poor judgement.

Now, I do happen to know a B747 FE who would not have missed taking subsequent advantage of such an opportunity

Australians, eh?

A reality check

Regardless of what you all may think of Mrs Beckham, the reality is she is a highly recognized figure. On t.witter she has 2.4m followers, Cathay Pacific has about 25,000. Again, regardless of what you may think of Range Rovers, an argument can be made it is a successful and recognized brand.

It would seem Mrs Beckham was traveling on Cx on a visit to China to promote Range Rover. She posed for the photo and posted it on her t.witter account. Mrs Beckham has a proven record of self-promotion and also a proven record of self-depreciation (which I think is evident from the photo). Again, regardless of what we all think, by any metric (apart from singing ability) she has been successful.

Applying all of the above, let's examine our employer's response. The company has expended money on a campaign along the lines of "staff make an airline". The company also expends money on monitoring and indeed manipulating social media such as t.witter, because they know social media is a very effectived means of advertising and opinion forming. Further, a competitor, Turkish Airlines, is currently running light hearted ads using high profile and highly expensive sports stars. In short, whether you like it or not, association with media personalities sell.

If Cathay had approached Mrs Beckham to pose for a light hearted promotional photo with a member of staff, the cost of such would have blown a small hole in the Advertising budget. A group of staff showed a bit of initiative and Mrs Beckham, at no cost to us, has promoted our airline on her t.witter account. Cathay's response, boll0ck the staff members!!

Talk about missed opportunities......... I think the Flight Attendants should spend some time in the Marketing/Press Department because they clearly have a better idea of how to promote the airline, and the muppets that publicly admonished the girls should spend some time down at the back galley learning how the world really works!!

Edited: because every time I type a word starting in T and ending in r and rhyming with "hitter", it comes out as Pprune ( birds like to twitter in the morning)See it did it again

Another one, 'Sporty' or 'Scary' I think, appears on low-budget Aussie TV channels peddling a weight loss program.

Not a pretty sight.

I think you're giving CX way to much credit, they are so far behind in technology they simply don't know how to handle it.

The CX smart phone app is a perfect example, it's a copy and paste of their entire website. They have absolutely no idea on what the purpose of apps are designed for. Have a look at the Virgin app if you want see simple functionality.

Plus then they go and blow sunshine up their you know whats and tell themselves their app is the greatest one on the planet

The Cathay iPhone App is cut and paste of the website? I think not!
It doesn't even have a Booking Engine (at least not on the version I downloaded). So whats the point of it?

'Posh' Spice - yeah, I've transported her before.
The biatch kept all of the rest of the pax waiting then swaggered on at the end with her entourage. Kept her sunnies on the whole trip and refused to converse with the cabin crew except through her interpreter.

I wanted to go without her but the grovelling b'stards in the company media dept refused to let me.

I did upgrade Blondie once. She was nice. Came up to the cockpit to say thanks afterward and invited the crew to her post-concert pissup.
Class.

Someone posted this comment on the Mongolian herp thread. Ouch!

As a cultured and sophisticated Australian, my only disappointment with the offending photo is that Victoria’s hand is placed in such a way that I cannot see her posh puss

The Hong Kong Standard newspaper reported that Beckham, wife of English football star David Beckham, had been criticised on Internet forums for putting the flight's safety at risk.
Who writes this crap? Must have been a reject from the Daily Mail!

I'm no lover of VB, a vacuous airhead if ever there was one but this all looks quite harmless and jokey.
