Don't make the mistake that hundreds of our SO's have made. The 'numbers' sound good on paper. That is because you have NO idea as to the actual cost of living in HK. To put it in perspective, it would equate to the same earnings in other countries as listed below:

1) UK 1400 gbp/mo
2)USA 1900 usd/mo
3)CAN 2100 cdn/mo
4)FRA 1700 euro/mo

etc, etc.

To clarify: the amounts quoted are approximately the sort of lifestyle you could expect living in HK with our local cost of living, with ALL of the money CX will give you. You CAN expect to need your parents to send you money to survive. You CAN expect to never have a family. Even a girlfriend will be too expensive for you.

Any further questions ?

It all comes down to disposable income, if you're earning 2 zillion a month but the cost of a 600 sq ft apartment plus living expenses is 2.3 zillion then you've got a problem.

You make More at Hong Kong airlines just next door, just saying if you are qualified might be another option...

No, they spent a lot of money on him, and he has spent a long time in CX because there were not enough locals qualified to do his job.

We all know about the sky high property prices in Hong Kong. Hence in addition to the pay, Cathay Pacific will offer free housing for the first 8 years of service to new joiners.
This was mentioned in a CX cabin crew recruitment ad.Looks like they care more about their cabin crew than pilots! Why don't they give free housing to SO's too?

There is always a difference between recruitment and reality. CX will promise you (pilots) the earth, but when you have sobered up after the cocktail party will offer give you mud.

Why do we have no interview cocktail parties? Because most of the target audience are too young to drink or are still living with their mom.

Does our insurance company really know what we are trying to recruit?

We need pilots not HK school kids.

(Just a few random statements)

Maybe we could do interview Dim Sum, might eliminate a few of extraordinarily loud slurpers of recent times?

Yes, I know its cultural but the Greek pilots refrain from smashing their plates and the Italian guys don't test if the pasta is 'aldente' against the cockpit door and the Nigerian guy doesn't bombard us with spam.

Lowkoon Quote "and the Nigerian guy doesn't bombard us with spam. "

So true, I tremble with anticipation as I wait for the 20 million euro I won in the Spanish lottery, and to think I didn't even buy a ticket! It must have just been fate! How thoughtful of those kind Nigerians to track me down and let me know...

Slow post?

Do not worry, Lowkoon. I'm sure that the cheque is in the mail! Nigerian post is notoriously slow. I too, am still waiting for my inheritance from some distant relative.

Strangely though, since I gave these kind people my bank account details my savings seem to have been depleted. Never mind, they will be topped up soon, I'm sure!
