Internet Deadland

If anybody is as p#ssed off by the poor quality ( and costly !) internet "service" in the Headland as I am, please write a short email with your feedback to the Headland, Att. Mr Stuart Macleod ( manager)

With any other hotel on the network it wouldn't matter that they've contracted it out, the company would simply negotiate for the hotel to include it or take their fairly significant business elsewhere.
However, there is an easy solution and if you search this forum you'll find some good info from about a year ago with prices for an internet dongle. Most 'phone companies now have a fairly low max daily charge so unless you're here all the time it's cheaper with a dongle. It's also possible to get a Hong Kong contract with an iphone and tether it to your computer/ipad with the charges over a year being pretty close to the Deadland's internet fees but you get a free iphone!

A request was made to CX several years ago to have the CX wireless network made available through the Deadlands Hotel

It was deemed inappropriate as the hotel was being managed by the Accor Chain at the time and interference by CX would impact on Accor Hotels revenue streams for providing the exhorbitant and inefficient internet that exists there

However now that the Deadland is being managed by Swire Properties, one would hope that the competition for "wireless broadband subscribers" between Deadlands and the CX Wireless Network would enable both parties to come to an arrangement for the benefit of crew staying in the hotel to have more convenient access to iConnect..... through CX Wireless being beamed into the hotel.. Not too much to ask is it ?

Then again, given the dazzling creativity displayed to resolve the "years in the making" shortfall of baggage stowage capacity at the Deadland hotel... one can't really be all too hopeful now can they

I would suggest for personal internet use... Go to PCCW... get onto their Pocket WiFi plan for $268HK per month, unlimited downloads, at 7.2mb/s download speed... which is faster even than the rate of decay of the room service menu and by far faster than the Deadland internet connection speed... You can also add up to five other wireless devices to your Pocket Wifi Network... ie . Laptop, iphone, ipad... simultaneously.... and what's more you can take it with you anywhere you go in Hong Kong for immediate internet access as it has a 4 hour battery life.... Oh and you can also password protect your Pocket Wifi Network....

Call PCCW Netvigator on +852 2888 0008 for more information.

But don't let this discourage you from writing to lobby CX Mangers with encouragement to beam the CX Wireless Network in to the Deadland Hotel...

Now wouldn't we appreciate that folks !

The time has come for a 'Headland Hotel Users' Group', possibly affiliated with the AOA. While still an impressive facility for what it does, and the staff generally do their best with what they have to work with, a 'lobby' group (no pun intended) may be able to get action on the following issues:

Internet access

Baggage storage

Run-down rooms including wiring, phone connections etc

Food

That bloody canned music in Lion Rock that probably hasn't been changed in 4 years

Etc.

Thoughts, everyone?
