Hong Kong Express Pay Cut

It looks like the Director of Flight Operations at HKE ( SW ) is finally showing his true colors, or should he be named the Assistant Director of Flight Operations for Hong Kong Airlines.
With the release of the winter schedule he direction for HKE has finally come to light.
UO709/8 (Denpasar) will now operate as HX709/8 under wet lease for HKA, from 12/11/10 UO234/5 (Shanghai) will operate as HX234/5 under wet lease for HKA and UO312/3 ( Beijing) will operate as HX312/3 under wet lease for HKA.
This is giving hundreds of hours of HKE pilots overtime to HKA, in turn reducing the take home pay for HKE pilots. This is a paycut that the company does not even have to justify.
With the arrival of more aircraft for HKA and HKE told to expect no more aircraft, ever. it now becomes clear for the reason for the placement of SW as the DFO at HKE.
Good luck to you all.

Time to jump ship for HKE pilots? Emirates, Metrojet, Air Asia, China Southern have all been popular recently.

HKA was always favoured because Hainan has more control over HKA than HKE. Unfortunately for pilots, office staff and the travelling public HKA is a disaster in terms of standards, safety and honouring employment contracts, as well as profitability!

I think it is time to do what should have been done in the past, Stand together as one, draft a new contract with set wages and conditions, call a meeting with management and say this is it, take it or leave it, stop work as a group until they agree.
They wouldn't know what hit them nor do they think you would do it.
Management would be on the back foot and would have to agree within a couple of days.
From then on you have the power and unfortunately that is the only thing these guys understand.
Australians, Brazilians and Local guys must do this as a group, ground the aircraft.
They are not ready for HKE to disappear yet so get on with it guys, now is the time to act.

good thinking.

however. maybe this is what they want you to do.

Considering that the Company HKA/HKE is changing fleet to Airbus,

you will give them an easy exit option with ...Pilots to blame and an excuse to further axe pilots in airbus fleet

If HKA wet leases HKE planes then surely you are still doing the flying, just with a different callsign? Wet lease means the pilots come with the plane, so you should not be doing fewer hours.

Ha Ha

Condorbaaz,

No point in telling me that, try telling that to HKE/A management.
During recruitment people are told "you will earn $14000 USD per month",
what they dont say is you will need fly 90 hours per month for that.
So if they can include overtime as a salary then why cant I ????

Ciao.

I posted this to the "Demise" thread, probably more applicable here.

I can give some information on the HKE side. Things are screwed up there as well.

3 pilots resigned in the last month. 2 more Captains shortly. At least 3 First Officers are waiting for results of recent interviews and the company seems happy to just sit back and let it happen with no attempts at all the better the terms and conditions.

Will the management ever realize that it will save the company money to keep pilots and to keep pilots they need to improve the package? To improve the package does not necessarily = more money. Just get their **** together and improve rostering so pilots can all enjoy some decent block time off each month, increase annual leave to 6 weeks per year, and give pilots a ticket to travel home on a confirmed seat once a year. That would be a good start. Giving pilots more than 2 weeks’ notice that the annual leave application is approved would also be helpful.

S.W still runs his mates club there. There are many who want a commuting roster, but only a select few get it, and there is no fair system to select who gets it. If the newest captain or First Officer wants commuting and cuts a deal with WU he will get it over a guy with the highest seniority.

HKE is the bitch of the two companies. HKE gets good routes and does the good work and makes the routes profitable and HKA just comes along and takes them for HKA and gives HKE the low yielding/unprofitable routes. They get the ****, they do what they are told they get no expansion, no new aircraft but in fact they are a far superior company with much higher standards and past safety record than the bully sister HKA. HKA wants to keep HKexpress a small company because they know they are better and they are insecure that the leaders at Hainan will soon realize this.

For those considering joining, be careful. The airline industry is buoyant and there are better opportunities out there. Stay clear of HKE and HKA or better, attend the interview and just laugh when they explain what you get with your contract. If you’re a pilot in either of the companies, now is the time to band together and get what you want. It is a pilots market, and you have all made the sacrifices for those companies in the past troubled years. Now it's time for the company to reward you for your efforts and pay up.

I heard another quite senior First Officer resigned this week. Mate you can only be moving on to a better place.

Senior Management if you’re reading this…. Keep on doing exactly what you have been doing for the last 5 years (nothing) as your business formula and pilot package are obviously perfect.

You have the highest pilot turnover in the industry but don’t worry as constantly training pilots is free and costs the company nothing

You guys are underestimating the Hainan Group. They are being bred to be THE carrier in HKG (through CRK and HKE). They have Beijing's support (ie financial backing) and will destroy the competition.

It might not be a good place to work, but it will be the one left standing. Very different than Oasis, which was a failed business-plan with very little financing.

at the end of the day, no one wants to do business that lose money; business losing $$ isn't a business and means no value. No matter how strong the background of Hainan is and how wonderful the FUTURE of the existing HKA/HKE management currently creating are, they will either being sold again or shut down.
I didn;t remember where but i have saw an aritcle about an interview of Mr. Yeung, their president. he stated that HKE will transform to a cargo airline and HKA will be a PAX airline.
after all, i strongly believed that their business isn't performing well but not sure if they are losing money (i have no reason to believe they aren't). their 737 pax capacity is doing fine but not sure about cargo below. their 330 pax capacity is performing poorly as their J class is always empty or with only 1-3 paxs while their Y class usually just around 60-70% filled. heard that one of their BKK flight with only 6 pax on board. with 2 more a330 comming next month and some 19 a320 expected to begin delivery in 6 months from mid 2011, i am excited to see what will happen.

What are the preferred hiring minimums that you current pilots have been seeing? What is upgrade time? Training bond term? Thanks.
