CX sniffing out 8 SQ 777-200ER's

Word on the street is that CX have been down in Singas checking out used SQ 777-200ER's.
Up to 8 available for delivery now.

Maybe this might move things along a bit vis a vis upgrades?

What would they do with these, having no -200ER in the fleet and having just ordered the A350, which is a direct replacement for the -200ER?

Not saying that they wouldn't be on the lookout for dirt cheap second hand metal - the cheap b*st#rds always are - but I don't see how those would fit in the structure. Unless they wanted to prematurely retire the rest of the A340s and use those as a replacement until the A350s took over, or use them to replace the -200A on the regional routes...

Who cares if we don't have any 200ER's now?

These SQ ones would be a good stop gap for a few years until the A350 comes into action.
They are heavy weight versions with the big centre tank and have a fairly nice interior fit out. ( better than our 777-200/300's anyway )

With a few new Flat Beds in J class they could do Australia nicely!!

If the price is right then it seems a good idea.

The A350 orders are for 2016 onwards, but the 777-200ER's would be for late this year/early next year. Our Management don't want to miss out on any business opportunities...

This would definitely make a difference to command courses for next year (should it happen), since there were only about 40-50 expected for 2011 (plus JFO upgrades and SO recruitment, etc)

The more stress that can be put on crewing the CX jets across the network, the more potential leverage that can be applied against improvements to the contract(s).

That's why the recently graduated cadets are being taught on type now.

Hardly. That is a long term objective for all, but especially Cadets.

But the actual allocation of individuals to courses is haphazard and short notice to put it mildly.

Although all SQ 200s are technically ER's with the center tank etc. Only the
-SV* registered have the Trent 892 and 297,000Kg MTOW.

The -SQ* and -SR* registered have a Trent 884 plug and 251,000Kg MTOW.

Anybody know which ones Cathay is looking at?

With 29 aircraft going and 30 arriving why would we need 50 skippers for one new aircraft?

I wasn't aware that SQ had 2 weight versions.
Maybe if we get them at a good price Boeing could up the weights? It might cost 1 million for the paperwork but it would be worth it.

Then again CX might not need the extra weight if they're going to do the same routes as our current 200's

I think it's a good idea, it also means more pressure on Management to negotiate with us.

I could be a good time to tighten the screws a little by seriously considering CC.

Who for?

You are of course assuming that they would be for the CX part of the group.
Not necessarily!

I don't see how they would fit over at KA. Unless they plan on doing P2F conversions for AHK...?

Anyhow, they wouldn't put any pressure on crewing anywhere if they use them to replace old frames they'd get rid of, like the A340's or -200A's...

KA currently do not have the 777 on their AOC.

If we buy these 777's from SQ it will be for CX, of that I have no doubt.

And I doubt we would sell our current 200's, they decided against that considering their value in the current used 777 market. Exactly the market that makes it smart to buy more used 777's in the first place!!
