how to get a business class seat for free - part 2

the memory of crazy lady missing her flight is still fresh - and that Cathay rewarded her for her behavior with an upgrade to business class...

Now, you may wonder, why did she only get an upgrade to business class?
What about a limousine to and from the airport?

Well, to get that you'll have to to a little more. How about a bit of physical assault on one of our Check-in Staff members? Yes, that'll do it ...

Cathay Pacific ground staff was injured by a passenger.
Cathay Pacific flight CX723 was scheduled to take off at 8:50am on 9th August, a passenger refused to board the aircraft and requested to delay the flight to wait for his family companions. A male ground staff made an explanation to the passenger that the flight needed to take off in order to meet on time performance, and their luggage would be unloaded. Six minutes later, the flight took off after unloading the luggage. At the same time, all companions of this passenger arrived. One of his family members abused and injured the ground staff since he deemed his vacation was forced to delay. The supervisor of this ground staff didn’t allow him to call the police. Subsequently, Cathay Pacific upgraded this passenger and his family in business class when they took the later flight and provided with a limousine service on arrival in Malaysia.

How about if you kill one? Will that get you free 1st class for life?

this is so disgusting!

I feel so sorry for the ground staff and FAs everytime I fly (all airlines). Not only their job is difficult but the pay is low + they have to accept the abuses of impolite passengers. Poor guy...

I think it should get you a chairmans lounge lifetime pass and a CX AMEX black card with complimentary travel!!!

If the supervisor witnesses it, there should be complimentary travel to and from the airport of departure.

Late VIP arrival in upgrade storm

Dennis Chong

Thursday, August 12, 2010

A Cathay Pacific staff union has demanded that management explain the upgrading of a government official who turned up late with his family and allegedly abused ground staff.
The union also alleges Hong Kong Monetary Authority senior manager Brian Chin Tsang-kung struck a member of staff who was trying to restore order.

Chin and Cathay Pacific deny the accusations with the official claiming they turned up late because his son had a stomach ache.

According to the union, the family of four arrived at the departure gate on Monday morning just four minutes before the aircraft was due to depart for Kuala Lumpur.

The bags that they had already checked in were being unloaded at the time.

The union alleges Chin and his son became offensive when they heard the next flight was four hours later. According to an internal report by Stanley Chan, a member of ground staff, Chin and his son swore at staff. Chan also claimed he was hit on the hand, but his managers stopped him from making a police report.

He said he was shocked to see Chin and his family put in business class when they took the later flight and provided with a limousine service on arrival in Malaysia.

A Cathay spokeswoman said they were upgraded through appropriate procedures. She added there is no evidence that anyone was hit, and no one stopped Chan from reporting to police.

According to an airline source, Chan has not reported for duty since the incident.

"It is a passenger's responsibility to arrive at the gate 20 minutes before departure," said Dora Lai Yuk-sim, chairwoman of Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Attendants' Union.

The union is one of the company's biggest employee associations with around 6,000 members. "We would like to have an explanation why, following what was claimed to be verbal abuse, the passenger was given an upgrade and a limousine service," Lai said.

She added the company has banned staff from discussing the case with the media.

There are no clear guidelines on the upgrading of passengers, said Lai, with the decision being left to the duty manager.

A letter will be sent to management demanding an explanation and urging clearer guidelines on how to handle similar incidents.

An HKMA spokeswoman said Chin is on vacation and the matter is being investigated.

More than 700 people have gone on Facebook to support Chan.

"There is justice. He will pay the price," one message said.

Chin was previously an investigator with the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Just as a note, stanley (the ground staff) was struck by the passenger, and he hasnt shown up to work since the incident.

Well, that says a lot, doesn't it?

You wouldn't want a government official with that kind of background and connection to be irked at you in these times of multiple court cases and discrimination claims against you, now would you...?

Just in case anybody forgot HK is still very much a big boys' club.

That poor ground staff doesn't stand a chance at justice.

Another overpaid HK Government blowhard!

When is HK going to get rid of these overpaid tax payer funded monkeys.
The HKMA ( Hong Kong Monetary Authority) doesn't even set monetary policy.
They have palmed that responsibility off to the United States.

It's good to see our hard earned tax dollars going to these bafoons.

This joker should be banned from any future travel with CX. Instead he is upgraded and treated like royalty.
I'll have to try screaming next time I staff travel- what do you think the result would be? Interesting comparison of results.

The check in staff at HKIA must be feeling well supported by their management.
Nice! Someone behaves like a goose and you are left to watch your managers not only condone this behaviour but reward it with a business class seat and a limo at the other end.

After witnessing such deplorable behaviour the supervisor should have invited this Chin bloke into The Wing lounge for a session of waterboarding.

If Brian Chin "Po Face" is so important, why was he travelling steerage?
If he's that hard up, Air Asia have a very good service, three times a day, to Kuala Lumpur.
I think we should be told.

Point of Order:

1. It is the right of a citizen of HK to report an assault on his person to the Police

2. It is not the right of his employer to prevent him from doing this

Suggest:

1. File for assault against HK's most 'important' family

2. File for intimidation and removal of civil rights by employer

But sadly, as Mrs Mullet mentioned to me this morning, the punchy-belly-ache man will be let off under the 'Amina Bokhary Rights' - "he is well educated and from a good family". And CX will be let off due to the previously mentioned old Boys Club network.....

Happy, happy, happy!
