Well said. That crew did a fabulous day's work. The don't deserve speculative mud-slinging or opinion. Granted, some of our more vocal colleagues here might also have landed safely but somehow I guess that would have had a lot more to do with hot air than skill. That said, I'm reminded by a medical professional friend that even benign tumors bleed!
Nothing like a military compliment on the flight deck to raise the standards.

More seriously, following the career of the BA B777 captain who, despite taking immediate action to ameliorate a very sticky short finals situation and was briefed against by BA CC training who, of course, know all about L/D ratios, perhaps it is better not to have personal publicity following an incident.

Of course the word should have been 'complement'. We didn't give compliments in the military, we just told you what to do and you respected our orders or paid the price.

Was browsing the internet looking at speed records for aircraft, I know I know, anyway turns out that if CX780 touched down at 231kts it should claim the record for fastest landing. At the moment it is officially recognized that a TU-134A landing at 225kts in 1988 holds the record.

I'll never understand that CX did not capitalize on this at the time, disaster averted by our crew. Amazing job by a relatively new captain, young guy too.

And what keeps getting missed in the reporting is that at one point during the whole event one engine was sub-idle and the other was shut down. It's good to see that CX and the HKCAD keep failing to highlight this pertinent point!
