Headsets

What do most people do for headsets (besides wear them?) Does Cx provide anything? Anything to not get?

HKCAD considers the headset as part of the avionics of the aircraft and very few are approved. CX provides headsets for use...on the -400F they are all active noise canceling.

Ok, thanks Mayday. Do they stay with the a/c then or does everyone carry their own?

NO !!

No the headsets stay with the aircraft. If you are coming as an SO unfourtunately you won't get ANR headsets yet !!

Oh and you don't have to buy a headset either.

So no need for your own head set.

You got to clean the headset of hair gel and the mike of spittle, as part of your pre-flight though. Nasty stuff !

Welcome aboard if you are a new hire.

usage

But don't expect to use the headset in the cruise. so you will still suffer the same airflow noise exposure

so means SOs only sitting there and nothing to do during take-off and Land period ? I thought they have things to do such as listen ATC and assist Cap and FO.

pardon me???

There are a set of headphones at each seat. There are 4 seats in the cockpit. So on long haul where you need 4 pilots, all wear headsets for departure and descent/landing. Do not worry though as it will not distract you from making sure the aft cargo heat gets turned on or off !

The ANR ones are nice but as a test I wore them 6 hours and my head hurt as they are pretty heavy. Quiet though....

So to sum up you still don't need to buy a headset, but you will need to clean and wear one on each and every flight.

Clear ?

SOs do have a very important job especially during pre-flight. They need to laugh at the captains jokes, eat the sandwiches and if they are luck enough to be on the 400 make the bunk.
