Give yourself a pay rise
Give yourself a pay rise!
Are you happy with the imposed change in pay and conditions?
Does it please you to be threatened by NR re upcoming negotiations of Housing and Rostering? Threats of 3 man ULH ?
Are you happy with your pay cut of 25% in inflation adjusted terms coupled with a large increase in productivity since 2001? The Company are definitely very happy.
NR has done a great hatchet job – literally.
Numbers are always good. NR likes numbers. Kim Jong Phil likes numbers, and although I don’t do calculus in my spare time, I like numbers, especially when they come in a nice table labeled “EFP Jan to Dec” and the rest of the article in CN.
Consider this when your next roster comes out.
Are we short of crew?
Well, CC tell me they are short of every category. They should know.
It’s obvious from the table on page 7 that EVERYONE is doing EFP every month on average throughout the year. As NR says, ‘If we could hire more crew than budgeted we would be able to bring forward the introduction of new services’. Then ‘If we fail to meet recruitment targets we will have to defer the introduction of new services’.
Last year 85 pilots retired/resigned/lost license. What’s changed this year?? We’ve all had another pay cut (in real terms) effective 1 Jan 2008. Thanks. DEFO’s on the pax fleet have had a substantial cut to their initial pay…Thanks again.
North American Freighter F/O’s had no meaningful improvement in pay and are likely to continue leaving (NR “Sadly we lost XX capable pilots and we recognize that we have to work harder to improve the lot of the Freighter crew”…BOLLOCKs – empty platitudes and lies- why put such garbage in print.)
Other airlines are INCREASING salaries.
Junior officers at CX are facing substantial increases in time to command. There are approx 2250 pilots, 800 Captains and 1450 Junior ranks. If YOU join at seniority 2251 tomorrow and commands are issued at 90 per year, how many years to Command, given you must wait for every other ‘non captain’ in front of you to upgrade first ?? Do the math. Oh great ST “increasing the retirement age won’t alter command time”…. Garbage!!
Do I need to mention complete lack of basing opportunities for large numbers of us, pollution in HK, concrete boxes we live in……Cat B, Cat D…tRAINING with a small t Checking with a big C…
There's no question more crew are going to leave this year than last year.
NR “Draw your own conclusion”. I believe CX will have no choice but to roster us collectively as close to the maximum as possible. The alternative is under utilize aircraft and fly less sectors
(and put back expansion of services) Since when is a comparative shortage of Crew a reason to underutilize aircraft – especially with such modest expansion?
More crew leaving this year, more aircraft, more sectors…we are going to be tight on Crew.
Now what can YOU do about this

EFP
Enter EFP
Notwithstanding the above, if you would still like to help the Company out, I highly recommend that you try not to go sick and keep your EFP every month as close to 84- 86 hours per month. This way you will MINIMISE your pay for the year.
If you want to give yourself a pay rise this year, VOLATILITY is your friend. Given likely staff numbers and average EFP in the coming year, CC will have no choice but to roster large amounts of overtime.
How do you do it?
If you’re unwell, perhaps with a head cold or just plain old fatigued, and are not fit for duty you should not be going to work. Ideally it is optimal if by some small coincidence this happens strategically so that on 2 or possibly 3 months a year, your credit hours for the month are down somewhere in the vicinity of 60- 65 credit hours.
On the negative side, you will lose some HDP in the month of sickness, however you only need to get somewhere in the order of 2 ‘extra’ hours of EFP to make up for this, then everything else really is extra.
While it doesn’t guarantee it, chances are that due to crew numbers it hugely increases the likelihood of a few big EFP months in following rosters. This will work especially well if there is a small increase in the number of sick days from a substantial number of crew.
Of course, while there is no formal industrial action, this may make life a little hard for CC. It is worth considering that the same people that own CX own Dragonair. Our managers are obviously quite happy to treat employees so badly that large numbers leave, and quickly – a la KA. If they want to park aircraft and cancel numerous sectors then that’s their choice. Continue down the present industrial road and this is what lies at the end.
Look at your block hours. If you’re too close to 900 on the rolling 12 monthly total, there’s no way to make em pay!!!
If your Credit hours are sufficiently volatile then you give yourself a much greater likelihood of getting to the 2.5 multiplier. As wacko Tom says ‘Show me the money!’
If you have any doubt that this doesn’t work, do the numbers yourself. It is impossible for all of us to achieve an average 84 credit hours plus over the course of a whole year without large numbers of us at or near the CAD max. The implication of this is that if you have some low credit hour months, they will have to make up for it in other months with significant EFP.
Enjoy

It's not acceptable to work on a G day at all. Ever. Some greedy, selfish people are disguising this whole crewing crisis by helping the firefighters put the fire(s) out. Please stop - if only for 6 months or so. If you don't answer your phone you don't get involved with the promises and sob stories so you don't have to refuse anything. Simple really.

My rule is quite simple. If you are required to answer the phone or contact CD (ie you are on reserve/Available)then do it. If not - don't.
Even on a work day you are not on Duty until your report time so you still don't have to answer/acknowledge anything.

and remember you are allowed to go "Sick" 6 times a year for up to 6 days at a time without raising any flags......................so the rule is simple if you are not rostered into EFP................................PRA

not 6
Size ol boy..
Have to ammend last comment, it is 5 times you can call in sick. The 6th time gets you your letter, you know the one, "we are only concerned about your well being hence the need for this letter".
