Cathay Roster Lines

Just wondering what a common roster for a Cathay S.O. is? How much time away from HK at a time vs how much time at home (in HK)?

Any help is much appreciated.

On the 400 you will get 3 trips/month. 4 days is the norm. I am not sure if their are any longer trips. You will be rostered a sim session once every 2 months. I have yet to have experience with reserve so I am not sure exactly how that would affect your roster.

An Airbus SOs roster is dependant upon whether you are 340 and 330 qualified or solely 340.

340 only (your first 18mths) is identical to the 744 SOs

If your 330 & 340 then expect 1 extra trip (either to Australia, where you work both directions or to the Middle East, where you generally work over and pax home)

As an SO I averaged 19days off per month (6-8 sectors)
As a JFO I average 13days off per month (14-28 sectors)
As and FO I average 17days off per month (6-14 sectors)

What are sim sessions like

My apologies if this is covered somewhere else on pprune, but I've searched every way I can think.

I keep seeing references to the bi-monthly sim sessions. What are these like? Are they scheduled as part of your roster? Half day, all day, multiple days?

So Sims

SO's do 6 mods every year. They are scheduled roughly every two months and are usually 4-5 hour sessions (plus pre/post briefings). The purpose of the mods is to keep your hand in it since you are not "operating", but they are also regulatory in the sense of Instrument Rating renewal and Aircraft Rating renewal (mods 3 and 6).

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Mach, thanks for the info. So in terms of rostering, they'll schedule you for one day of sim every couple of months? Do the sims stay the same for FO's/Captains?

Yes, SO's are scheduled one 4-5 hour session roughly every other month. As for the Capt's and FO's, they get the normal RT/PC (2x5 hour sims) every 6 months.

Are there 2 SO's on a ULH or 1 and a relief FO?

Crewing for ULH is normally 1 Cpt, 2 F/O (one as relief) and S/O.
