RB211-524 Bleed Air

Does anyone know how many stages this engine has and which stages the bleed air comes off of?
Also, can anyone tell me what the A343 and A346 leading edge devices are and how many of them there are (per wing)? Thank you.

Cool

Assuming you're talking about the 744-

There are two sources of bleed air available from each engine:
intermediate pressure (8th-stage) and high pressure (15th-stage). During low power engine operation, the three 15th-stage bleed ports supply compressed air. During high power engine operation, the two 8th-stage bleed ports supply compressed air. The intermediate pressure check valve will not permit high stage air to be supplied to the intermediate bleed ports (it is a one-way valve).

The engine is a high by-pass ratio turbo-fan. It has:
A one-stage LP compressor connected to a three stage turbine.
A seven-stage IP compressor connected to a one stage turbine.
A six-stage HP compressor connected to a one stage turbine.
A combustion system between the compressors and turbines.
The LP, IP and HP systems are mechanically separate from each other.

340 has 7 slats per wing, total 14

? Spanner

Spanner,

If the there 6 and 7 stages on some of the spools...how can bleed air come off the 8th and 15th stage? Don't understand what you're talking about.

Cool

That was taken straight from the 744 maint manual. Seems the MM can't add up.
Bleed is taken from 7th stage IP, (which is 8th stage engine as the Fan is the 1st stage) and 6th stage HP (which is 14th and not 15th as stated in the MM, 1+7+6), blame mr. Boeing!

Might not to you Baywatcher but to some it may, nothing constructive to add then why bother.

Does it Matter?

Hey Baywatcher,
Does it matter? Depends...but it maters to me because that's the question I might receive on my interview. If I received that question on my interview, it definately would matter. I agree an interview question like that might be wrong but it's the airline that determines what matters to them.

maters (sic) to me because that's the question I might receive on my interview

You are VERY unlikely to receive that sort of question in a CX interview unless you are already flying the -400. You might get some pretty technical questions on your current aircraft, but of course you should be able to field those. A general knowledge of the aircraft operated by CX would be a good thing of course...

Hey dream Guy,

You know how guys say never bullsh!t, just say sorry sir I don't know that one. THIS IS DEFINITELY A QUESTION TO SAY SORRY SIR I DON'T KNOW. To say it would definitely matter if they asked you in the interview - trust me mate, it doesn't matter. This is not what they are after. I have been flying A330s for ages and NONE of us, line drivers or interview dudes know this so they don't want you to know. This is definitley a question to check you bullsh!t propensitys. Basics my boy - function of slats, critical mach number, range versus endurance, performance - not how many bloody fan blades etc etc.
Good luck, hope you do well.

Ditto

The pitfalls of reading about other peoples interviews without knowing their background; sent me into a spin trying to find out what the max cabin differential is on a 747; answer I am not a 747 driver so would never be asked.

Good luck! FYI I got asked tech about my present and previous types on the 2nd interview only. Most of the tech for both interviews was straight out of HTBJ plus the obvious what's our fleet/on order/tropical met stuff. DEFO Aussie, successful

Oh and don't get into a pi$$in match with the Airbus Chief Pilot at the cocktail party....not pretty to watch.
