B777 Info

Hello all,

Was wondering any 777 drivers could please help me out with any of the following info as part of a project that I have to complete. (From an ATC perspective)

Whilst I am guessing that max/min speeds are rather similar to other twin jets, some specific figures are required.

1. Max/min/profile speed on descent
2. Speed inside 30nm to dest.
3. Speed inside 15nm to dest.
4. Final approach speed.
5. CLIAS
6. Ceilings for -200 and -300 models

Also any other specific info on the type which may help ATC when processing these aircraft.

Regards,

UA

As a general guide:

Max/min/profile speed on descent:

Max speed: 310-315 KIAS due to the relatively low Vmo (330 KIAS). It's very easy to overspeed if there's a wind change on descent. The -300ER will have a higher Vmo (350 KIAS) which should allow a higher max speed on descent.

Min speed: Not less than 250-260 KIAS at higher levels (above FL250), but lower down can reduce to min. clean speed if necessary (around 230 KIAS in a heavy -300).

Profile speed: 300 KIAS

Speed inside 30nm to dest:
Normally 250 KIAS if speed control is in force (ie 250/10,000), otherwise 300 KIAS reducing to around 220 KIAS by 20 nm or so.

Speed inside 15nm to dest:

Around 180-200 KIAS.

Final approach speed:
Anywhere between 155 KIAS for a heavy -300, and 125 KIAS for a light -200.

CLIAS:

Typically, 300-310 KIAS

Ceiling:

Max operating altitude is 43,100 ft for both models - only achievable at relatively light weights.

Some of the above speeds will vary, depending on weight.

Yeah sure your ATC mate, 10 bucks you've just got your GFPT and am boning up on the speeds to impress the people when you have you're airline interview in 6 months time.

Or you've just done your first solo and flying 777's is practically just around the corner, so you thought you should do some reading up.

Here's a hot tip mate, normally you get rated first before you start processing aircraft. Stop chasing german's and eating pies for dinner.

By the way, there is no -300 model....its crap...crap...crap oh wait yeah...yeah ...you're right.

As a rough guide:

-200:
1,500-2,000 ft/min at lower levels (below FL200), reducing to approx 1,000 ft/min at higher levels.
-300:
1,000-1,500 ft/min at lower levels, reducing to around 800 ft/min. The -300 can be a slug when climbing at higher levels, particularly when it's heavy. It can be a bit of a struggle to reach the cruising level prior to the FIR boundary ex HKG (eg. Envar or Dofin/Sikou)
Again, there can be a wide variation depending on weight/temperature, etc.
