Asthma/Allergies
Anyone have any ideas what the Cx medical department's opinion of childhood asthma (fully outgrown at age 13) or allergies and hay fever?

shouldn't be a problem, but I guess, if they don't ask, why tell 'em ??? It's probably best not to be too forthcoming !!!
The one they don't like most I think is "Industrial Blindness"
you know, when you get up and say "Can't see myself going to work today"'
seems to happen quite a lot !!
Good luck !!

Be very careful what you declare in respect of asthma.
With hindsight I would not declare what was a very similar history to yourself.
Do not assume common sense will prevail.
PM me if you wish to chat about it.

Thanks much for the insight, Cuillin.
Tamalai, luckily, I have never been diagnosed with industrial blindness. Should get by fine! (Hope it's not contagious!)

Hi Betaboy. I too had Asthma as a young child and like you grew out of it (although by about 5 I was no longer having attacks).
I told them on my medical forms as I wanted to be up front with them and not be found out later (I thought that they may have access to my CASA and RAAF medical results).
I was a bit of a problem and the doctor wanted some extra info. I faxed them my CASA Spirometry results. I also requested from the RAAF my results but they said it would take 30 days to find it and I needed it in 7!
It showed on my Pulmonary Function Test that I had Mild Obstructive Lung Disease and so I needed to do another test. So I had to do a 3 x 2 min runs with a Spirometry before starting, between and 10 min after. Almost killed me! However the results were fine and so the good doctor at CX passed me fit for a HKCAD medical. I start with them next year.
During all the tests and phone calls I wished I had kept my mouth shut, but now I am glad I told them from the start, for if it ever shows up that I had it as a kid, they already know about it.
Best of luck with it.

Check with your own aviation doc before hand on how you should answer.
like Near Miss I had to go through what he did, sending all my info and doing the run test. I still get a very mild asthma when I play sport and they still passed me fit for Cathay. Mind you it took them 2 months for a final "Yes" letter to come through.
So now just waiting for a start.
See ya
