Engines
I'm so tired of hearing of all the problems going on so I'll ask a question instead. First I will let you know that it is for an interview that is coming up but don't worry I will not accept an offer, I just don't want to look like a plonker since they payed for my trip to HK. I am interviewing for a F/O positon on the freighter side but I assume that we are under the same ban that every one else. Nevermind, here is my question, why doesn't all CX planes have Rolls engines? Why does one of the airbus modells have GE. Thank you in advance.

The A340 only requires thrust in the 30-35,000lbs range for the -200 and -300 models hence they utilise the CFM 56-5C2 (31,200lbs) or the 56-5C3 (32,500lbs) or the 56-5C4(34,000lbs). The A330 for obvious reasons requires much more so RR Trent 772 is used (71,100lbs).
The A340-600 may well use RR engines as it's RTOW will approach that of the 747.
There...now i feel like a complete smartarse!
This info won't do anyone any good of course because we know you won't be turning up right????

My wish is that all this would be resolved by then but I doubt that that will happen. Still I fell like I have to prepare as it is business as usual. That means that I will keep hoping for a lift of the ban until I'm in Hong Kong. I take the ban seriously though and have no intention on getting on any list what so ever. Thank's for helping out and good luck to you.

Psst! Blunder - the A430-600 DOES use RR engines, currently undergoing flight testing at OneTwoLoose. As for the thrust rating, it still won't beat the 747-400, the Trent 552 engines are derated to 52,000-56,000lbs in on-wing trim, although the certification thrust will be 60,000lbs, after final certification testing in Derby, a mere 550lbs more than the -400 engines. Surely good news for anyone flying the A340-300 and clearing the perimeter-fence by a few inches?
