Class 1 Medical for CPL instruction?

I was told today, by my AME, that a Class 1 Medical is no longer required for CPL instruction.

Is this true?

Not that I'm aware, last trainingcom has a reminder that examiners performing a CPL skills test must have a valid Class 1 Medical

In order to teach for a CPL you must hold a CPL and to be valid you must also hold a valid Class 1 Medical. You can teach PPL; IMC; IR; FIC and class ratings with a Class 2 but not a CPL.

I really don't see the need for a Class 1 requiement for CPL instruction.

I would think it would be more sensible to insist on a Class 1 for PPL teaching, but a CPL student is much more likely to be able to fly if the instructor is incapaciated?

Then again, nothing make senses about CAA rules these days

Its not a CAA rule. ICAO Annex 1 an International Recomendation.

Would that not be to instruct in a simulator possibly?

I'm pretty sure you dont need a class 1 medical to teach CPL under FAA rules

No need for any medical to instruct, if the candidate already has a pilot certificate. Instructor does not have to act as PIC.

Otherwise Third Class medical (or BasicMed) required for instructor to act as PIC

So if the FAA can deviate from ICAO...why can't the CAA?

Everybody can. ICAO only produces recommendations, not regulations. But by signing the Chicago Convention countries do promise to comply with these recommendations. The good old US of A is just a lot worse at keeping promises than other countries are.

SARPs are published as annexes to the convention and aren't egally binding. Each state may deviate from SARPS and notify ICAO of those deviations.

Seems it's all comes down to the UK CAA's interpretation of "valid". Costing me a fortune in medicals every 6 months, and extended ECG fees.

What's this i read about treadmill Ecg's for over 60's.
Would i be excluded if they know i wasn't covid jabbed.......they know something.

I had some free in the past but others paid like £700 for one.
Glad i'm at a stage where i would give up flying tomorrow if costs go through the roof.
Already given up on all all ratings except the basics to instruct PPL level due to costs.
Thought of nearly £1k medical would see me off altogether.

I had to do one last oct... Cost of at least £700 (or more dependent how much AME wants as well).

Class II... runs marathons but has high blood pressure. Had a discussion with the consultant .. "Why are you here?" "Cos the CAA is box ticking"...The Bruce test means you are supposed to run to exhaustion with an increasing effort profile.. I overran the appt time and wasn't "done".
