Freelance instructing in own airplane

Under EASA, is it allowed to carry out instruction for PPL and other training stages in an owned aircraft or must it be done via an ATO?
I was told this is possible in the US.

At the moment it can only be done at an ATO or Registered Facility. By April 2019 the Registered Facility will be replaced by the Declared Training Organisation (DTO) so, as an individual instructor with your own aeroplane, you would have to become a DTO to carry out PPL instruction.

Or you could try to find an existing RF/ATO who might take on you and your aircraft.

Indeed it is, and it once was in the UK, in the days when qualified people were trusted to do what they were qualified for, without the need to be controlled by bureaucrats who haven't got a clue what they are doing!

By the way, will this be possible all over Europe or only in the UK under the UK CAA?

This is a EASA rule that applies to all EASA States, nothing to do with the UK CAA!
