Aussie BAK Test

Hi all,

I was wondering if there are any Australian instructors out there who are familiar with the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge test? I have completed the pre-solo and pre-area solo with no drama's however have not been able to find out exactly what is in the BAK (particular to the C-152).

The Trevor Thom BAK book seems to go into a lot of detail, sometimes very complex and this seems unreasonable for pre-PPL, or maybe I am mistaken.

Any info greatlty accepted.
Buff.

Buffeting, I did a PPL course before I did my BAK - it helped me sail through both exams. You can never have too much knowledge too early.

Good luck!

The Day VFR Syllabus will tell you what has to be in the exam and to what depth. When you have passed the BAK and the GFPT you will be able to carry passengers, so a reasonable amount of knowledge is required. My students use the TT books and I think he is just about right. You passed the first two exams with no problems, so why should it be any different with the next. Good luck.

B,

Work through trial exam papers. I find the style of most CASA exams a bit irksome and trial papers helped me "get comfortable" with the style of the BAK exam. Chat to your instructor, who will probably have some tips based on his/her own experience and the experiences of his/her students.

Download the (CASA) Aeronautical Knowledge requirements from the CASA web site as a PDF document. You can also download the entire syllabus from here.

Post your email and I will send you some trial exams.

CFI, VB, I Fly, Brian G:

Thankyou very much, helpful info indeed. Especially VB's comment:

You can never have too much knowledge too early.
That's a very good way of thinking! I will definitely take that advice on board.

Turbine, thanks for the links, they proved very useful. It never crossed my mind to check CASA's website, although in hindsight it should have been the first thing to do.

Some trial examinations would be greatly appreciated, here is my email address.
Cheers.
