FAA CPL IR to EASA conversion in England

Hello All,
I've recently come to England and i'd like to know if there are any schools in England that offer this conversion course - possibly in the Sheffield, Derbyshire area. I've searched for a while to find one but the only schools that are coming up are in Sweden. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im a CPL IR ME with approximately 900 hours and an accredited aviation degree. Also, are there any airlines that would sponsor this conversion?

Welcome to the UK, and the wonderful world of EASA.

Flight raining in EASA-land is somewhat different to the US, with schools offering CPL and IR courses needing approval from their respective country's CAA - it's not like the US where you can just go to any suitably qualified instructor and get on with it.

You will need to take a set of written exams - which ones will depend on what your goal is. If airlines are your aim then you will need the 14 ATPL exams. For a CPL/IR you will need a similar number but with a smaller syllabus.

With your background the CBIR may be the best route for your IR - Ravenair at Liverpool might be an option for that. PTT at Leeds Bradford also do commercial training. There may be others closer to you.

You would be very unlikely to find an airline to sponsor a conversion - there are lots of qualified pilots out there looking for jobs.

Great appreciation for your quick and in depth response. What exactly is the CBIR? Is it the alternative to taking the full instrument rating again (which would be glorious)? And would you happen to know what the estimated time is for completing all of this conversion for the ATPL route?

Can't think anyone in euro land these days would sponsor a conversion. BTW looking ahead a bit it's not clear in your post - I take it you have the right to work in the EU?

CBIR = Competency Based IR, reduced course on the basis of prior experience.

If you have a current FAA CPL/IR then you don't have to do the full course anyway - the amount of credit you get can be found in CAP 804 (search the CAA website).

For the ATPL route - exams typically between 6 and 18 months depending on how hard you study.

Flying - depends on the school, can be done in a month or so.

I thought CAP 804 had been revoked since August 2016.

I also thought that under a new EU regulation someone like Lyrr3d only needed to contact an examiner to schedule a skill test for a CBIR. I forgot the requirements but I thought it was 100 hours IFR experience ?

Anyway, that is probably not what he is looking for, as he wants an EASA ATPL and work here.

The CAA publishes a list of Approved Training Organisations here; you should be able to find one near to you.
