EU regulation 965/2012

Having been advised through AOPA of the forthcoming change in requirements on 25 August it appears that for a club operation or simple ATO without complex aircraft:

1. All documentation must be carried on all flights.
2. A locator beacon must be carried on all flights.
3. This also includes TMGs and Gliders as they are both EASA aircraft, but surely that is not correct.

It is taking time to decipher this reg to see the full implications.

1. Not true. Most may be retained at the aerodrome or operating site provided that the aircraft is intending to take-off and land at the same aerodrome/operating site or remains within a distance or area determined by the competent authority. AFAIK, the UK CAA has not yet determined a distance or area - based on previous performance with Part-SERA, that'll probably happen on August 24th.

2. True in the case of aeroplanes and helicopters but seaplanes and balloons need to carry an ELT or PLB only when operating over water and subject to a risk assessment by the PIC.

3. Part-NCO applies to non-commercial operations by all non-complex EASA aircraft, including sailplanes and balloons.

You missed a bit

Don't forget a first aid kit and fire extinguisher too. There is another thread on this somewhere (search PART-NCO) where a nice chap has summarised part-nco in aircrew speak. ie "if you are VFR you need x,y,z" "if you fly at night add a,b,c" etc

In defence of the reg, it's timetable for enforcement was set in 2012. Just a shame the CAA hasn't been better at publicizing.

I don't understand why there should be any doubt in your mind. Unless I've missed something, private operations are, by definition, not commercial operations and are, therefore, subject to Part-NCO or Part-NCC according to aircraft type.
