Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

PT work for Airline Pilot

Hi,
I currently work for an airline in the UK, but have been thinking of getting my FI(R) rating and doing some part time instruction on my days off for fun, as I miss flying light aeroplanes.
Firstly, what are the chances of getting some part time work upon completion of the course? I obviously do not want to spend £5500 for nothing. I have spoken with my company who have no restrictions on doing this.
Secondly, how are instructor ratings obtained overseas viewed by UK schools, eg. Spain or the USA?
Any other comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

If you're an airline pilot I doubt any school would be prejudiced towards you for doing your FIC abroad however, I would recommend you doing a few hours familiarisation flying VFR here (if you are not current on puddle jump flying in the UK) before you start teaching over here. Don't need to patronise you about the differences in flying here/USA/Spain and the size issues etc etc.....
