Using Canadian PPL in UK
Earlier in the year I was awarded a Canadian PPL, but then moved to the UK (in July). I have clocked up 65 hours so far (in Canada). Is this valid for flying in the UK or do I have to do do some exams, pass a skills test, take a medical etc? I emailed the CAA and they directed me to LASORS A7, claiming that this is where I would find the answer. My reading of that says that my Canadian licence is valid and entitles me to fly in the UK forthwith... Have I got that right? I put the same query to the CAA but it's hard to get them to respond, so I turned to this forum in the hope that someone might know the answer.
Here is a quote form the relevant LASORS passage:
A licence issued by any other ICAO Contracting
State (including a JAA State that has not yet been
recommended for mutual recognition) is also
deemed to be valid under the ANO for the purposes
of flying a UK registered aircraft, providing that the
licence and medical are valid in accordance with the
rules/laws of the issuing State, and the CAA does
not in the particular case give direction to the
contrary. However, the ANO2000 Article 21 (4) (a)
states that the holder of such a licence cannot:
1. act as a member of the flight crew of any
aircraft flying for the purpose of public
transport or aerial work or on any flight in
respect of which he receives remuneration for
his services as a member of the flight crew; or
2. in the case of a pilot’s licence, to act as a pilot
of any aircraft flying in controlled airspace in
circumstances requiring compliance with the.
Instrument Flight Rules or to give any
instruction in flying.

Basically day VFR is fine with no further formality provided your Canadian licence and medical are current and valid.
Conversion to a JAR-FCL PPL(A) (should you so wish) will ultimately require a JAA medical, some exams and a Skill Test - with associated Examiner's fees, CAA issue fee etc. But your Canadain licence must also be current and valid in all respects when you apply!

You were "awarded" a PPL?!? Wow I didn't know they hand those out in Canada
BTW, is it true that in the UK, you must record take-offs and landings in your logbook?

nope. you have to record the follow
name of pic
date of flight
place/time of dep and arr
type and reg
whether SE or ME
total time of flight
all other entries are optional. although the new Jepps JAR Logbook has a section to record the number of take offs and landings so this maybe a requirement in the future.

Not according to the ANO Article 28
