Thought you guys may be able to answer this one. A group of us were discussing the matter and no one knew the answer!
Are the exam/flight test fees quoted in the JAA publications rigid or are they suggested fee that the examiner should charge? (A R.R.P. if you like!)
Thanks,
Julian.

As far as I'm aware, the price quoted in the CAA schedule is the price which the Authority charges when it conducts the exams. There is no hard and fast recommendation for flight tests, exams etc carried out at PPL level by UK/FE(PPL) examiners. For example, I charge nothing for first attempts at PPL ground exams, nothing for IMC Rating flight tests, a fixed price for PPL Skill Tests, SEP Rating Skill Tests, renewal or revalidation tests and an hourly rate for retests. Other examiners charge the same but pass the fees on to the Club so long as I agree to pay for all their
travel expenses, medicals, revalidations etc.
That cabal of price-riggers known as the 'FIE Panel' seems to think that it agrees the 'industry' rates - but it has abslutely no statutory powers to do so.
