Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Wink Non-Commercial Instructors

Hi!

Is it possible to hold a FI(R) without a CPL, and thus instruct for the fun of it?

For instance, if you wanted to instruct but not for hour building, carear, money reasons - just to but something back into the system?

Presumibly you would have to pay 50% of the cost of each flight?

To be able to instruct on a PPL you still need to complete at the least the CPL theoretical examinations and the FI course by which time you might as well do a CPL as well and be able to be paid.

As you will see from the thread Obs Cop has linked you will find strong resistance from other instructors if you try to work unpaid

There is a wide belief that all training must now be done "under the auspices of a flight training organisation".

No idea whether this is really true.

In practice it sometimes means one is told that one must pay a school annual membership fee.
