Aircrafts below 2000 kg

Hello,

does any of you know any details regarding EASA regulations for flight testing of aircrafts with MTOW below 2000 kg? As far as I know, in such a case there is no need for any test pilot rating. Does it really work in that way? And if yes - is MTOW the only limit?

Thank you in advance.

That is correct - but whoever is overseeing the flight testing : either EASA or your national authority will have to approve the flight test structure and pilot qualifications. You just don't need the specific EASA flight test rating.

Thank you Genghis.

I did not find it in FCL.820 but are there any other restrictions except for MTOW? Such as propulsion type, speeds etc.

Not that I am aware of.

Here in the UK , we have a mechanism called "E-conditions " that permits qualified individuals to supervise flight testing under 2000kg.

There are a mixture of rules and guidelines about *how* we may do this, but the restriction is basically to true flight testing of manned aircraft of any configuration under 2000kg MTOW.

Those are not relating to 'test' flights, but 'maintenance check' flights.

No need for an EASA FTR only if an aeroplane <2000kg. FTR needed for an experimental or development (ie class 1 or 2 as defined in Part 21) test flight of any helicopter, regardless of MAUW.
