ICAO course
I know a lot of guys post on this forum looking for help so I will make this brief.
I am just about to sign up for the new ICAO FOO course in Glasgow college. Are there still opportunities out there in Flight dispatch? I know industry is crap at the moment as currently employed for US major, and with recent employee buletins getting worse. I have already completed all the C&G Aviation studies years ago and have worked in weight and balance dept for 2-3 yrs before being moved on post 9/11.

Anyone who has taken the trouble to study flt ops and obtain the C&G and the ICAO FOO Course has demonstrated a willingness to learn and is in my book a likely candidate for any Ops vacancies. As the UK CAA and the JAA will soon require operators to train their Ops staff to the same syllabus you'll be step ahead of those who haven't done the work.

Where Abouts ....
Hi
Having just started out in Load Planning and Dispatch I was wonedring where you di d the C and G course.
I have been having great trouble finding a college who is running the syllabus at the moment.

The ICAO course is the full blown flight ops/flight dispatcher course and is offered from the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, see previous posts. The City and Guild course study materials are available from AVTECH 2000, the exams run by the Guild themselves. I don't know of anyone else providing the C&G material except perhaps East Surrey College, Redhill.

I've just completed my C&G advanced ops course. For the first year I went through East Surrey and for the retake of one paper this year I used my previous years tutor who now has his own training company. Mr C is an aviation pro with experience he will tell you about, PPL with ratings and CAA approved instructor. If you don't learn from him you won't from anyone. His training is entertaining as well as highly informative. As a result of his tuition I gained two distinctions, two credits and a pass to get all five papers. The only thing he couldn't do was get me a job at the end of it! He will let you know if he hears of anything though. He can also arrange retakes later in the year if required, East Surrey only hold exams once a year. My experience of ES was that the organisation was very poor. It took several phone calls just to find out when and where the course was being held as a result of which I missed the first six weeks of the course.
The C&G course may not yet be as up to date as the ICAO course but it's an awful lot cheaper if you're just starting out and looking for your first position. I've been looking for a year and still haven't got anywhere. As a result of 9/11 there are an awful lot of experienced people out there looking for a job who rightfully get first choice.

Originally, we considered that you could complete the distance learning in 9 months, however, after discussing it with UKOMA, it was felt that would be better to run the course over an 18 month period giving time for summer breaks etc.
It's not a set timetable, although the first course kicks off this month you can join at any point.

Apparently the "superstars" at DHL Air are going to do the course in4-6 months. God only knows how they are going to fit it in, maybe they haven't anything else to do on shift, although I hear they have got 9 aircraft now. Are they trying to score points with someone..............
