Flight Ops info
Hi,
Can anyone give me information on working in flight ops. Things like what a typical day entails, what sort of specialist knowledge one requires, who you would report to, etc. Any and all information would be appreciated.

Surely someone out there must have some info. The reason I am asking is that I have an interview for a flight ops position coming up, and am really keen on the position, so am doing a little research in order to give myself a better chance...To break into the world of aviation!!!

Like waco find your question strange. Why have you applied for a position that you know nothing about? Most people that apply for Ops positions do seem to have an understanding of the type of work they will be faced with.
1. Do you have any aviation experience?
2. Why do you want to work in aviation?
3. Why would I want to employ you?
If you are going in at entry level - experience not essential, be yourself, have an interest in aviation - it helps.

Scary what happens when you try to type something out in too much of a hurry. Normally I can spell!!
Anyway, to clarify a little further, I am not fishing for a story, I do have a considerable interest in aviation, as well as some knowledge of what goes on in Ops. The position is an entry level one, so lalapanzi, cheers for that advice. I am not looking to con anyone, just trying to do a little research to prepare for the interview. I always considered that good practice?
As far as why you would want to employ me, I am honest, hard-working, reliable and VERY keen to get into aviation.
Anyway, cheers guys/girls, hope that makes it a little clearer(And you lot less suspicious of me...)

Ah wildbill - so you hold a ppl. Does that mean you look at starting in ops as a way to get a flying position - eventually? 
Believe me I have interviewed numerous people who hold ppl's & even frozen cpl's who want an ops job, when really what they wanted was a flying job via the back door!
Now this should not be held against you, but I do know some employers are not keen to take on ppl holders as they don't tend to stay around very long.

I am not looking for a flying position by the back door per se. I think most people interested in or involved in aviation ultimately yearn for a flying position. I am genuinely interested in the position. As far as trying to obtain a flying position by the back door is concerned, that is not what I am after. I am looking for a position which will interest me (which my current job doesn't), pay more, and where I can learn more about the aviation industry. I understand what you are saying and am certainly not aiming to try and take advantage. I believe I can gain from the position but also that I will be able to bring something to the position/company.
As a self-financed(and to give you an idea, I haven't flown since Feb due to finances) wannabe pilot, I am currently many years away from achieving my dream. In the meantime, I want to be involved in the industry. Hope this sets your mind at ease as to my intentions
