CENSUS of UK Operations Officers and Flight Dispacthers
Ever wondered how many active Ops officers and Flight (not ramp) dispatchers we have working into the UK that fall in the potential FOO/Flight Dispacther licensing requirement category? With your help we can get a fairly good idea. İn this census, or perhaps more accurately- straw poll- can we qualify who is included:
1. Serving operations officers/operations controllers, supervisors and managers or persons who exercise 'operational control' and flight watch over a UK AOC operation. Their duties will be described in Part A of the Operational Manual. Both fixed wing and helicopter operations.
2. Serving Flight Planners or persons who form part of the operational team and whose duties are defined in Part A.
3. Any others whose role includes the provison of operational services to airlines in the UK who would reasonably expect them hold a a licence should it be required. e.g. Ryanair Ops people, flight planning service providers, handling company flight planners or pre-flight breifing. Helicopter operational types who might be included.
(Not included (this time) are crewing, ramp dispatchers, load control agents, apron controllers, those who need to hold a FAA Licence as a result of their duties to US carriers- unless you are also providing ops services UK AOC operators)
Please post details for your airline/company and the number who qualify and their location- I'll add it all up when it the thread runs its course.
e.g. ABC Airlines, Ops Control 23, LGW Based
XYZ Airways, Ops Control 20, Flight Planning 12, STN Based
Who's going to get the ball rolling?? and lets not miss anyone...

Not too sure what you mean. The objective here is to get a feel for how many people in the UK would be required to hold any new ops officer qualification/licence that might emerge from changes coming about with CAA/JAA/EASA.
İn the above, I recognise that there may be an expectation, if maybe not a direct requirement, for non-airline employed people to hold the same ops qualification. For example, a handling company or FBO who provides pre-flight documentation or flight planning services to an airline. İn that case, it is perfectly reasonable for the airline to expect the staff providing those services would hold the same qualifcation and meet the same standards as their own people might.
But please, this is a straw poll and we needn't be to pedantic, if you think that you would need to hold any future ops qualfication/accreditdation then please, post your numbers.

G'day from dunnunda, What are the new U.K licensing laws for Ops / Dispatch staff all about ? Can you let me know why this is being proposed, is it being directed by Authorities, Airlines or staff/unions, and for what purpose ? Haven't heard anything about it down here, but then again we usually never do. Just wondering because if it's being mooted up there then it will probably filter down to us eventually. Thanks

I would doubt if the RAF would expect their ops officers to hold any future ops/dispatch accrediation, however, why not put your numbers in if its not restricted information. I would think most RAF ops bods would consider doing the course for a move into civil aviation.

Do a search back over this forum for ICAO 7192 D3 you'll find answers to that, also you can search the JAA and EASA websites for the latest.

Well Mr Angry, if you think you will be required to have the a UK or European qualification then by all means put your numbers in. As I said earlier, its a straw poll to try and establish how many UK ops bods we have that would need to hold the qualification if and when it comes.
No Sig - There are two sorts of Ops Bods in Liz's private airlines, The Flight Ops Officers and Flight Ops Managers. You only need to ask the question on the Military Forum about the Ops Officers and see low opinion people have . The Flight Ops Managers on the other hand is where the experience and expertese is.........................
You can guess which side of the fence I'm on!
