Dispatch Jobs with Virgin
Hi
I have a possible interview with Virgin for a check-in job at Heathrow, but would like to work in Dispatch. Can anyone give me an idea what the opportunities of moving to dispatch jobs within Virgin are?
Thanks for your help
Michael

I'm guessing that Virgin may use a third party to handle their a/c, but I couldn't give details on this as I'm not sure. If this is the case, I'd expect any role in dispatch to be through the handling agent rather than through Virgin itself.
Hopefully someone who actually works for the company can give you some more relevant information.

It is possible to go straight from check-in into The "Airside Services" Department (formerly known as Traffic).
There are a few people who have gone straight from being a PSA to a TCO.
Just shown an interest in the department, ask to go and shadow as them much as you can - not just when the job vacancies go out like most others do.
You will normally have to do at least 18 months out on check-in before you can make the move tho.
Good luck.

Check-in is straight thru virgin, look at the website or main UK airport papers (Skyport).
Cant get in thru check-in?
In the past lots of internals taken - Some less experienced than what they could get externally. There are still a solid few who know what I mean, the redesignation was supposed to separate the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys etc etc....... But other than them I bet I get slated for making this post!!!
The job of "dispatch" if you mean ground dispatch was given a facelift HSE title of turnaround co-ordinator. To give it a DM grade/// Not bad for a "dispatcher", where do I sign up!!!!
Money for old rope!!!
W/B done in Bangkok (used to be GHi CLP in LGW) loadsheet thru ACARS.
Baggage/AAA done by VS baggage
Cargo/NOTOC thru VS Cargo
Ramp = Pan Handlin' (few contracts at LHR)
Training is more than in some places luckily you dont have to wear that purple wastcoat..... but you do get a tie that is "different".... Oooooh!
Better than handling agent s**t. But be lucky to get in..... The face must fit - b4 you say it mine did but lots p*****d me off and I got another job.

What about doing L/S in BKK - our handling-agent in PRG
yesterday told us we have to add SITA-addresses for BKK for A/C-
changes and we were quite surprised!!!
Is BKK the new world-wide centre for all the little and large L/S??

All,
I worked for VS at LHR when the "Traffic" department was still called that, in 1999. Having spent the previous 2 and a half years at KLM Heathrow, I found it very frustrating, and left after a fairly short tenure.
The guys and girls I worked with within the Traffic department were great, without exception, but EVERY DAY we all came up against the same in-fighting and political bull!!!!! between our department and Passenger Services, mainly because PS wanted to "run" the turnround at all costs, constantly trying to "get one over" on the Traffic Agents (as we were then).
Personally, I don't go for all that, I just smiled politely and got on with my job, but that didn't stop me being dragged into the office twice having being reported for my "attitude" by Pax Services Supervisors who didn't like the "new boy" who seemed to be able to do his job well but had too much to say for himself...(With my Superior telling me "You know what they're like up there, we have to let them get on with it whilst we do our jobs, don't take any notice of it...")
What would you do? I lasted 6 months before I conceded defeat...Sounds like the shake-up has made things a lot better though, wonder how many faces there would be familiar to me now?
PHX
