No B licence holder with OJT

Passed my Cat A course this year in August and in September I started my 1 years practical experience at Airbus on the flightline. I asked which person will be responsible for signing off my work in the log book and was informed don't worry the guy you need is on holiday at present. So today, 3 months after starting work I decide to find this B1 mechanic to get my work signed off only to find out that he is NOT authorised to sign off any of my work because he is not allowed to do OJT. Turns out that airbus has only 2 guys allowed to do this and they both work on the A380 and I'm on the single aisle. So thats 3 months work for nothing.

forgot to mention, dole office have paid for this course and I'm still on the dole working for nothing now it seems.

any suggestions

First...

CAT A = Mechanic
CAT B = Technician

Take your query to the QA manager or a QA engineer and state how long you've worked without OJT supervision. They SHOULD sort you out.

In the meantime, make sure you PROPERLY log all your work as you've been told to and make sure that its up to date - make sure that they are the problem - not you!

I don't know how Airbus training works so -
If you can't get a QA official to do the job - see if your Shift Supervisor will? or see the Training Dept.

Any EASA licensed engineer or mechanic should be able to sign your logbook entries, providing what they have signed is within the scope of their licence and they saw you/assisted you with the job, eg B2 sign for certain avionics bits, A licence holder can sign for wheel changes etc.

Make sure you keep a signature sheet at the front of your logbook where you can note the licence no.s of the people that have signed your book and get the shift supervisor/line manager/QA to authorise them.

That's the way I did it and didn't have a problem.

I would be cautious about getting an A licensed guy signing OJT, as they must have carried out all work themself, better sticking with full B licensed guys.

Im not sure of the set up where you are, but if the aircraft are still being covered by part 21, would they be acceptable for your license?

Surely your experience sheets of the logbook should be signed by the person who either 1/. Signed off the rectification task that you were assigned to assist with / do (Must be a "B"), or 2/. be the covering "B" supervisor for the "A" Tech you were helping. They are stating that you have done/been involved in those tasks.

The Competencies (that I assume you are really refering to), should be signed by a person assigned as an assessor by the company MOE (as you have found out). Surely, your assesors should be able to determine if you have reached those competenies by looking at your experience sheets and questioning you about those tasks and the relevent facets.. True, I know of assessors in my company that want to see you put in every crimp, bolt, rivet, before they sign, including a good grilling on the subject!

The chapter 2 in my book for example has lots of stamps from various LAEs from my first company worked for (as a connie). I was never made aware of OJT assessors in that company (but as a connie did they care?) My permie job has seen a couple of non OJT assesor LAEs sign it (they didn't know about the company position either!) but since I found out, I only use the specified names.. Might be a problem with quality, but if they cannot accept that a 25 year time ex forces guy with several years proven experience in a 145 enviroment is competent, I'm in the wrong industry!!

Any B license holder should be able to sign the tasks pertinent to his catergory( provided he has a company approval and signs CRS at the company in which you did your ojt), I was lucky for having worked with a B1,B2 holder so he signed it all for me and my logbook went straight through and I had no problems.
Just get anyone that holds a B2 license to sign the avionics work and B1 to sign the airframe and power plant work.

Thanks to all your replies.

I am still puzzled as to why the only B1 licence holder where I am is not authorised to carry out OJT ?????

Good news is, CAA replied today to say that this guy can sign off my work as long its supported with a cover letter. It also seems that I put a cat amonst the pigeons because at work the management started flapping like 10 men in regards to not having an OJT authorised b licence holder, suppose thats puts the dampers on being taken on....... lol.

Cheers lads.

hi Flame Bringer.I ll be really obliged if you could help.
I m living in INDIA.EASA examinations started in INDIA around an year ago.I have cleared 7 EASA Modules for B1.1 in 8 months and planning to complete it in 8 more months. As i am in a Non EU state so i am really short of experience. I have only 2 years experience and need 3 years more to make it 5 years and fill EASA CAP 741 log book.
what i wanted to ask is if i clear all my modules for B1.1, do these modules have a validity period?? Or will they expire untill i gain my experience.
plz reply.
thanx

Hi Naveen Chugh
Ok let me put it this way, If you manage to pass all your EASA modules within less than 5 years they don't expire no matter how long it takes for you to meet the experience part, However if you keep failing them and never pass them in more than 5 years then you'll have to start from back to square one(all the ones you managed to pass and lasted for over 5 years without you passing everything will expire).
So the answer to your question presuming you're suggesting passing all of them in less than 5 years, No they don't expire and you can take your time at the practical experience part.
Good luck
