Hi Guys,
could anyone give me an idea of where BA and BMI do their maintenance, in particular what kind of operations they have at heathrow? And how much work they do there?

thanks!

BA has a widebody maint base at Cardiff. All B744 and B777 major work is performed here.
They have a narrow body maint base at Glasgow. All B737 and A320 major work is performed there.
Most of the rest is actioned in London.
At LHR there is a B767 and B757 major line, and also hangar maint on all the LHR based fleet is carried out at LHR up to C checks, which are sent to GLA and CWL.
At LGW there is a hangar for minor maint. Also the B767 cabin conversions were carried out at LGW recently, but I don't know what that hangar is doing now.
BA does send some work outside these bases. Aircraft often visit Marshalls in Cambridge, and odd major checks are done by contractors. A few years ago the whole B742 fleet visited Avalon in Australia for major checks!

BMI has a maint base at LHR, and one at EMA.

bmi only have a maintenance base at LHR now doing airbus work.EMA hangar just has a few staff left correcting all the defects on the 737 fleet that have been maintained to an "equal JAA standard "all over the cheaper ends of europe.See if you can guess the result...?
a)a fantastic quality product produced at a saving giving excellent customer satisfaction and increased dispatch reliability with no reduction in safety.
b)a f@**ing nightmare.
c)an expensive f@**ing nightmare.

bmi has been sending the shorthaul Airbuses all over Europe for check work, firstly Shannon, then they went out to Portugal and now they are in Tel Aviv. Engineering at LHR is little more than a line operation now, with nothing more than 'A' checks taking place. At the moment one of the A330s is in having an engine change and a '4A' check.

Don't forget that the BMI Hangar at LHR also does maintenance work on Cathay Pacific 747-400's during the day.
