LED Torches

Has anyone got an LED torch for use on the ramp. If so whats the best one? Gerber have a single LED 3 watt, but other brands have up to 16 LED running of C cell batteries. Any good. Currently use a maglite but find the batteries don't last long and the beam distance is not very good. Thought maybe the LED torches may be better.

I think maglight are developing a LED version and there may be a mod to convert your existing one, so you may want to enquire before splashing out for a new one.

I believe maglite do have an L.E.D. conversion for their D cell torches...but i am still yet to see one. No doubt it will cost a bit though!
The best torch (non LED) that gives good Pure white light are the rechangeable Maglites. The are just the job. fairly strong beam from them also.

Cotswold Camping had some good ones last time I was in there. Not sure if all the range is on their site.

I've got one, not cheap - but you have to try these gadgets. It's not my Mag instruments, by some other mob.

Very bright, better output than rechargable mag at full charge.

I have the Gerber TX 3.0. It has a single 3 watt LED and runs on 3 AA batteries which seem to last forever. It has an aluminium body and comes with a belt holder. It's fantastic. Don't be fooled by the multi LED torches, some are not all they're cracked up to be. Look here

I confess that mine came from eBay, cost about £10, but it's brilliant. I've had it for about a year, replacing one I had for about 2 years before that but lost (then found again and my wife now has in her handbag).

10 white LEDs producing a very clear beam, five ultra-violet LEDs which regularly I find useful for a quick and informal look at "what's happening there", and a red laser pointer in the middle which also comes in regularly useful for those "I mean that bit over there" moments.

Uses three AAA batteries, which I replace about twice a year of fairly regular use. So far has given me no trouble at-all, about 35mm across at the blunt end, about 27mm at the sharp end, about 130mm long.

Looking on eBay, this seems to be the same model.

These little things are pretty good for close-up work, not so much GVI's and area checks...

I like the Sure Fire range of torches. Much smoother beam than Maglite, smaller for beam size, and options push buttons either end. They are a hunting torch, as we hunt cracks and faults everyday, very worthwhile. But would be interested in seeing the new LED maglites
