nungry 28th May 2002 23:24

Ah, the "Campdog and the Pups" era. RIP Fatso the wonder dog. Youpla sabe "You no Gateway customer - you Wongai customer!!!" Ah the memories come flooding back. MICHEAL STIPE 29th May 2002 04:49

Club UZU ?????

Party Galore , hope not too many of your CD's were knocked off the next morning from uninvited gate Crashers.

Elephant_man 29th May 2002 06:18

Brangas is flying for Air Mount Isa on the Bandit last time I heard and Kristin last I heard was still going out with Freaker who is in Qantas I do belive so the're probably in Sydney.
Does anyone know where Apu is, circa 2001. Heard he got into Cathy but it was all during the recruitment ban period.

BongoDriver 29th May 2002 12:15

3 years of my life...taken by the 'Straits.. but it was all good (mostly).

Freaker and Canadian chick no more...

Brangus is indeed in YBMA

My memories...truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Bongovan, Damnjumping, Eddie, Chester, and Midsy. :)

Had probably the best time of my life up there, even though I hated every minute of it. (know what I mean?)

Flying Mechanic summed it up quite well.

The story I remember best is the one where 5 pilots stayed up all night drinking, whilst I went to bed due to early departure. Wake up 6am , five pilots strewn about house, kitchen looks like it has been hit by bomb. Smell of gas throughout whole house. Flying mechanic does drunken fryup and forgets to actually light up all the stoves rings. Here is me standing in kitchen with cigerrette in mouth and smells gas... / RUNS!!! Windows open, doors open, yelling for everyone to get out. Flying mechanic rubs eyes and sez "oh sorry mon..."

Good mates! -> Deefa, Dengue, Licorice, Onions, Hairy, Freaker, Gay Mike, Lippy, Doogie, Nadsy, Wal, Mabuig Pete, Supes, Flogger, The Erwins, BP Dave (LEGEND), an all dem other ballas I be forget.

Yawol !

nungry 29th May 2002 18:13

Yes Bongo Driver - less not forget the Erwins!!!! Still in touch with Cheif Irwin - believe it or not hes fixing Virgin Blue balus blo Brisbane!! I cant believe Spray On hasn't had a mention yet. Who could forget him!! What about good ol Fr Joe! The most honest man in the Straits!! Never a bouncy cheque would he write!! Or how could I forget the night I was smacked unconcious by a local boy after going tits up in the Bongo boat in TI harbour.

Elephant man - Apu is somewhere in deepest darkest South America. He and Belinda spent a few months over here on their way through. Hes been working hard on his afro, and its come up a treat. If someone knows how to put photos on here - I've got one of the fro thats beautiful!

Keep it coming boys - long live this thread. Esso garrrrrrrrrrr.

tyga78 30th May 2002 00:01

G'day Tigers,
Great thread, nothing like G.M and Cocko's B@lls on the end of the pool table at the Gateway to help play a pool shot,
how many people can you put in the bongovan for a midnight dam run,
what do we think of Krus?
Kus telling one of the teacher chicks about how many times he's cheated on his girlfriend while standing nude in the dam.
Sailor Dan speaks for himself - steady steady
And who could forget the mighty floor sliding - beer 'n' pizza night.
Great memories. Great Bulla's
Flying mechanic, drop us an email.

Flying Mechanic 30th May 2002 01:57

you sabee charter

Then there was BuLLA Deefer.........he had more unforms in his cupboard than the Aussie Army! His party trick was going home drunk and trying not to end up in his house........and then getting chased by old ladies and uniformed people......and we cant forget the lovely TAMSTER of Mabuiag......now if there was one job each week we had to do on time was the friday pick up(usually at 5)so Bulla Deefer could have her down at Horn for the week end actvities......the parties on TI at deefers new abode when he reached the big time........CAPE-LAND-HINT-SKI......more to come.....

cleatus 30th May 2002 03:11

My time in the straits still has been the best flying that I have done to date. Sliding the van down Mabuiag sideways in the wet with terrified punters sitting in the back. Having to overfly Coconut & Yorke Island after picking up Big Ben from Darnley at Warraber, thus blowing out the landing weight options in the van. The nasty wench that I kept me warm at night & current. All the lads, my best memory was of the morning I had harsh words with Coastwatch 246 on MBZ due to engine runups in the parking bay. Who can forget Milo!, the heavy Twin Driver(caution wake turbulance), paties at King Point, trips to Cable bay, fishing on WANTOK with Johno the bag snatcher, Pembo at UZU, & Bob god on Horn Island? Some of you I believe will be coming to a new paradise for new adventures. How is my old mate Rob from mobil. If anyone has his email address please send it to me. Im glad I only did the dam jump once that was enough. The best flying & fun I have had, even flying Moneymaker 1 & 2. Life was good & simple. Good nights at Robs house with Sad, APU, Carey & Cocko then driving through the bush tracks near king point being freaked out by animals & noises. You had to be there.

nungry 30th May 2002 06:04

Yeh but Cleatus, you couldn't knock 246's breasts!!!! Cmon mate- for Horny Island (Dixter quote) boys - it was gooooooooood, especially the pre-flight in the white t-shirt!!
But have to agree with you - best flying yet. Ask any of the boys (most of them) who are now on 744's, they miss the good ol' days!!
Really miss getting kicked out of the Gateway though. No matter what you said to that woman, she would not serve you a drink after 12pm. I don't think she appreciated the pool table pockets getting pissed in either. Go figure.
Brucie the copper would always look after you too. Always keen for a "yarn or two". What about Raewyn's sausage rolls, and the deep fried salami - yuuuuuummmmmm. Always a good night at BP Daves, even if he did go for the Bombers!!!!
What I also found amazing is that every car on the island magically turned into a four wheel drive once it arrived there. The Troppos dunnydore has to be the quickest car there. And who can forget the CATVAN - after many broken windows (Zooey!) it still powered on!
You cant fully explain, and words don't justify, the times had up there. I'm sure all who did their time up there and are reading this agree that it was such a unique experience, living in each others pockets, working for different companies, but such a comaraderie that is, and never will be fathomable anywhere else. You were forced to live with thirty other blokes who you never met before, but at the end of the day, got on like long lost brothers. We were brought together by death, friendships, poor living conditions, whether you'd be alive at the end of the day, **** poor weather, short strips, Mermaids visits, such different personalities, that we made it work. We were all brothers on the same mission. Fair enough, the companies were in competition, but we were there for each other - something I believe we will never experience again. Or somethin!

God help me..........
I miss those d$*k women........................

Kubin rock climber 30th May 2002 08:07

You no Gateway customer !!!!!

No longer a gateway customer and .............missin it !!

Howdy cleatus, it seems from your more recent emails that you might soon end up with a lot more of your Torres Straits mates keeping you company in that "New Paradise" you mention.

I thought that you said that you rarely ever go on Pprune....Liar :D

To all those unfortunate enough to know our mutual friend cleatus, how about some good stories on his days back in the staits...he only ever tells us the tame stuff & I'd love to get some goss!

Bring it on.

Flying Mechanic 31st May 2002 19:16

Cleatus noises

My company had a house next door to Cleatus'si house.......one quet sunday afternon i heard a noise coming from Cleatus bedroom, being inquistive I stood next to the window........Cleatus was not making the noise.....but was helpling very vigorously to create it with consatnt repitition......I got more pilots round the window and we all fell about in hysterics.....Cleatus none the wiser(totally embroiled in the task in thge in depth task)........the following day he was out in the MONEYMAKER plying the Straits....when he was listening on the MBZ I repeated the noise on the MBZ for him and ask him if sounded familiar.
Looking forward to joiniung Cleatus further North.
All QF bullas reading this, mepla now stay in London for next few months,so if youpla get London....we meet up for mutta crazy beer session....you sabeee.

Nungry, good to hear you might be home soon. I decree a muta party should be staged with all balas in attendance, it's been too long. No-one should be overlooked.
Everyone from Licorice to Brow will be there. There will be much drinking of Gulf Lager and swapping of stories. Could even become an annual event. Will even invite Blinky to pull the beers and Millie to cook the burgers! Freaker will provide the music and Nungry will do what he does best - we all know what that is! Filthy @#@#$!
Dengue - you can get off that no-ass and organise it. We could even stage it at your place. Necta.

Anyone remember mini-fatso? How about Campdog assasinating that dog from the car window? Or the dog that drank whatever liquid was in the dog bowl out the back of our place in the morning? God bless dogs.

Great to hear from all wah muta youpla and the crazy orn islan days. Awesome days that Ill never forget.
-Hairy rocking up to the Brow house on Lippys old bike pedal falls off hairy gets 20 stitches.
-Survivor Horn Is style when Lippy lost his bike riding around the island and nearly died of thirst getting home.
-Watching from the deck as Uzu's Van did the "Kubin One Arrival" with all the mobs bums pressed against the windows.
-The RWY26 challenge that dixter pulled off with all of us on board you legend!! R.I.P. that balus...
-The Boigu "Dirty Dip" comp to keep the balus free of filthy Island muta mud.
-Hosing out the house indoor dancefloor at the back house

-Fighting with seafood and mudcrab racing. I wonder if Hilda on YKI still asks about licorice?
-Waiting on Saibai til last light to get that all important 0.8 hrs night
-Skinny a$$ Gilly doing the dash turn around in his slippers
So many great times and funny stories. To troppos crew of old terminal in CS now has a baggage carousel and is all necta. The blue full castoring bongo fm hell now looks brand new.

Dengus Khan youpla sabe muta keen for charge of all old mob call Deefa his idea is necta...

FEW VB 1700 12th Jun 2002 14:19

Ahhh the Boigu Dirty Dip. Learnt that lesson the hard way. The pilot of the dirtiest aircraft after landing at Boigu had to buy the (stale) BBQ shapes at the IBIS to kill time for our all day wait. Flew over to see a pristine part banana sitting in the parking bay. Upon landing forgot to pull a mono over the dirty dip and covered the 206 in Boigu mud. And there was the Freak, shiny shoes, knee high socks and grin from ear to ear.

What about the Barrel Scraper chat frequency, where the most junior pilot of every company chatted, until one day when we heard "Station calling Moresby Centre go ahead." Oops. Time for another frequency.

Can't take credit for Dik's 'ville tour 2002. His idea, but still necta.

BarrelScraper, which way Fran #2?
