Question KD and Hazos - What is happening?

Does anyone have any snippets on what is happening, or any developments from the front? Since the news reports last week, the silence has been deafening!

The adjourned ZL creditors meeting resumes at 10am today. There the creditors will vote on whether to continue with the Australiawide bid or consider the two new buyers
that appeared on Friday.

The only thing is the two new bids only include the purchase of ZL.

Not sure what would happen to KD, have to see what today says.

Heard a whisper today that Queensland Airline Holdings maybe one of the new bidders. From what I was told they would keep the name Hazelton and operate it as a separate airline from Flight West. The only connection between the two airlines would be in their fleets, with the Saab340 replacing the EMB120 in QLD.

The deal appears to be back on track but not all are jumping for joy. There are going to be some interesting outcomes as a result of the last five days. Here are the interesting bits. Transfer of ownership will proceed with a share transfer in the case of Hazelton and an asset transfer in the case of Kendell. The new deal bypasses issues associated with the Kendell CRJ debt and associated liabilities, and has also been structured so that the purchase of Hazelton is now no longer contingent upon the purchase of Kendell. Interestingly this doesn’t apply in the case of Kendell though, as the purchase of Kendell is still contingent upon the purchase of Hazelton.

Strap yourselves in kids, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Mark my words, there are some interesting announcements due if Australiawide get the contract signed off with the adminsitrators.

Ambitious plans, I wonder how they will do it though without some deal with QF or DJ.

Thumbs up

I heard from a usually reliable source that the deal with Australiawide is done for ZL.

How does "Rex Aviation" sound as a name??

Just don't call it out too loudly or you'll likely be surrounded by dogs!!!

Thumbs down

fj-100,

An "asset transfer", as I understand it, is not a "transfer of business". Hence, EBAs and other agreements do not necessarily have effect in the new business. The assets are all that change hands.

Draw your own conclusions as to how YOU would handle retraining of CRJ crews if the EBA is now invalid.

Regional jet drivers shouldn't lose all hope yet. Very interesting news may well be close at hand (and no, I'm not talking about QF and their subsidiaries).

Cool

Some amazing things have happened in the last few days regarding this sale of KN/ZL. One things for certain is that some heads are going to roll amoungst the ranks in management positions, especially at Hazo's due to the fact that a rouge faction has tried to go behind the administrators back and purchase four Saabs ( my guess to operate them with Horizon, under instruction from QF- lets mess this deal up ). All stations are go with this deal, aircraft are being painted, and mature schedules tabled.

Its also amazing that there are people in this industry that are willing to see a company collaspe for their own personal gain at the expense of hundreds of jobs in an industry thats not huge on employment at the moment and for that matter has never really been anyway. This new airline has grand plans ( and for that matter foreign investors) with supposed connections to the SQ.
Funny that an SQ consortium would be starting in the not too distant future.

There is talk of a Brisbain base, and what an opportunity for an airline to opporate in a state so large that does'nt have any competition, ( QF link pick up your customer service, the pax are not happy ). And finally, remember SQ has a share in Virgin Atlantic and who owns VB (surprise, surprise), so the ties are alot closer than one thinks. People say aviation is a hard industry to predict, its not that hard because there is only so many ways one can re-invent the wheel.

Thanks for the post Dirtydeeds

Much of what you said confirms info I have gotten my hands on. Interesting times ahead to be sure.

My info says Qld based operating bne-syd-mel and possibly bne-cbr-mel with smaller equipment, with adl, per to follow. Yes, and look for an Australiawide link.

Australiawide has already expressed its intention to enter the Qld market and also expand from CBR.

One thing guys, there is already competition in QLD, its called Flight West. Flight West are starting to make in roads on the BNE-GLD route and there are rumours of more EMB120's and at least another 2 F100's arriving and plans to return to most of the larger routes that operated.
Also Flight West already has a very strong connection with SIA through Aeromil, who are one of the owners of Flight West. There is no room for another regional airline in South East QLD. If anyone is going to operate BNE-SYD-BNE or BNE-CB-BNE(FWA did this in the 90's), it will be FWA. They have an aircraft that can do it, the F100.

I believe the Flight West AOC has an important role in the project as does Flight West itself.

Yes, the F100 is an option, but perhaps not for BNE-SYD

Australiawide buys Kendell and Hazelton

Australiawide will next week christen its new airline created from merged former Ansett subsidiaries, it was announced.

The Australiawide consortium took ownership of former Ansett subsidiaries Kendell and Hazelton Airlines.

The new airline's full flight schedule will begin on September 1 with a total of 29 planes in the air and the airline's new name will be released next Tuesday.

The new player in Australia's domestic aviation industry has overcome a range of hurdles to merge the two carriers and pare staff numbers back from about 1000 to just 600.

The latest hiccup came late last week when Hazelton creditors threatened to cancel the sale, believed to be worth about $40 million.

The new buyer had indicated that it wanted both carriers or nothing.

Australiawide chief executive officer Michael Jones today conceded his consortium of business and aviation experts "had not always seen eye to eye" with administrators.

But now there was no one else to blame for the destiny of the new group.

"Now it's only up to us, we are not relying on third parties ... and thank God for that," Mr Jones told reporters in Sydney.

"We are looking forward to being the ones to blame now."

Thank Goodness it has finally happened!

Good luck to all the great people at Kendell who have been through thru wringer in the last 11 months, and stuck in there despite so many hits. Here's hoping the sale will bring some much needed stability, and they can all get on with their lives.
