Very interesting times
Well these are interesting times….first, and closer to home, we have the last minute media sales pitch by Australiawide Airlines trying to dishonestly sell their EA (no B, as it was pointed out to me there was no bargaining). Dishonestly I hear you question, well Armon Hicks has publicized “We are confident that no pilot or engineer has been disadvantaged,” he obviously hasn’t even seen the documents.

We now have Chris Corrigan screaming at the media in a lengthy interview indicating his frustration with the Sydney Terminal access. I would think the only time these types scream is when they fear a recently acquired asset could lose value.

And at the non-strikers end, David Huttner is in NZ on important business. He is endeavoring to educate the Kiwis on VB’s competition policy. And why a QF/NZ merger is bad for everyone.

I assume this is all because of the latest behavior of Sydney airport and Singapore. Sydney airports are thwarting Chris’s plans, "It's really a disgrace that Sydney airport have got an empty terminal down the way with nobody in it, absolutely nothing in it……..and what we're being told is that they're considering their options," Mr Corrigan said. And from what Singapore has been saying lately there is some consideration required. While Singapore hasn’t confirmed anything yet, this latest from Rick Clements is their most promising to date.

The one thing I cannot tie together is the link between a QF/NZ merger providing a stronger case for a third entrant into OZ skies? Maybe someone can show me the light. But it appears VB are not in the dark.
Interesting times!

It has been mentioned elsewhere, but if QF was to buy Air NZ (including the remaining SQ shares) , the ACCC would probably want another operator over the Tasman to generate so called "competition".
This is where Singapore would come in. Air NZ would relinquish the Star Alliance and take up with One World.
The new operator would take up the star alliance domestically and across the Tasman.
It is also pretty clear that terminal space at Sydney will be made available to a new entrant as the Sydney Airports Corporation (If that is what it is still called) has stated that long term leases to one operator are not going to happen.
Where this would leave Virgin is anyone's guess. It certainly leaves its float value much reduced. It's capacity to further grow will also be hampered. Corrigan is no doubt very "disturbed" by recent events and can see his investment heading south if this scenario eventuated.

How many times must the lessons of the past be ignored?
Australia does not have a market large enough to sustain 3 major players.
So bring it on SQ and lets see another bloodbath with the inevitable loss of hundreds of Australian jobs.
You have to wonder sometimes!

I don't think so!

Please explain?
If QF buys Air NZ, Air NZ would of course move over to One World, and SQ would remain a keystone in the Star Alliance.
