I think they could have hit the mark had they not bug*ered up so much.
I have a friend who drove from CBR to see the landing. Another drove from PQQ. They are seriously annoyed that the plane had arrived without warning the night before.
And it seems that QF didn't even bother telling the media who arrived at 11am to film the landing. I feel sorry for the PR people who had to go out and tell them that in fact he landed the night before.
The short comment at the end of today's article in the Australian I think shows that the reporters didn't think much of the organisation either...

So great were its advantages that Qantas modified its existing 707-138 fleet with the turbo-fans. With the arrival of its first 138B series aircraft, Qantas called its Boeings V-Jets, from the Latin "vannus", meaning fan. Two more were ordered in 1963
